Just buy a new one, switch it and return, just make sure you switch the bar code sticker on the back (it comes off easy). Worked for me.

The 360 are like disposable razors, they last for a little while but eventually you have to get replacements.

        Re: 360 is dead

I too got the Red Ring -O- death back when I first purchased my launch unit (about 4 weeks in)...I even went so far (have the MS 2 year warranty) as to open a case, and get a coffin shipped to my house..but I never had to use it.

        Try this :

Connect everything as it is normally hooked up
Hit the power button on and off as quick as you can.
Now, try this quite a few times.
Thing is, you have to time it to where the last hit you make, the 360 will be ON.

Like this (as fast as you can)...on off on off on off on off on off on off on off on off on off on.

If you still get red lights, keep trying a few times.
I did the above, and never ended up having to ship my 360 off for repair. The unused coffin is still sitting in my garage. I think in my particular case it was some sort of an electrical short, kinda akin to pushing the reset button on the old NES really quick to get it to come up.

I was getting the same thing you are...3 red lights, nothing on screen, no video at all.

        Good luck

with my system I have gotten the red lights only once but I can't get more than 10 minutes into any game without it freezing. I guess I probably need a new system but I have no warranty at all.

It didn't work but I have a general question...

Is it normal to boot up your 360 and have a blank/black screen, and have to boot it up again to get to the actual dashboard? This was the case for me 80% of the time and this was probably the sign of my future crash.

                  Re: 360 is dead

I'm having my own problems with my 360 and I would appreciate if someone could help me out a bit.

I purchased my system in August and haven't used it extensively, yet it just stopped working today. I was playing Madden as I normally would, no problems, then it just shut off as if someone had pulled the plug. I reconnected the plug from the power brick to the 360 and tried playing it again and it was working fine until the exact same thing happened. I haven't seen any "red lights of death" but the PSU seems to be fried or something.

Anyone have any insight to the problem? Any help is appreciated, thanks.

That appears to be a temporary fix but the system is about to die. Hopefully you purchased an extended warranty.

Check for a good AV connection on the back of the 360. The answer is no that's not normal.

I did this for awhile, prob a couple months before it finally died this past week. It'll work for awhile but it will go dead for good.

Is it plugged into a wall outlet, or a power strip?

If a power strip, then maybe you're not getting enough power, especially with other electronics using it.

I'm not trying to be smartass, but I can't believe that ANYONE would put up with this ****.

I don't have a 360 right now(or any other "next-gen" console for that matter), and I'm even someone that usually buys extend warranties for big-ticket electronics(and has had to use them a couple times), and I STILL think this 360 thing is nuts. HAVING to buy the extended protection is a whole other ballgame, and I'm not willing to play. As gamers, are we all willing to implicitly concede that these things ARE GOING to break?!?!?! Would anyone let this happen with a car, or even a toaster? I hope Microsoft gets there asses nailed with a HUGE class-action lawsuit.

I know that bad experiences tend to get overblown on the internet, but, as far as I'm concerned, the 360 is in a different stratosphere.
I drive a 2005 Toyota Prius Gas/Electric Hybrid. My last tank was 53.6 miles/gallon. Gas prices fear me!

Sony got sued for the PS2 laser problems, yet you could fix that pretty easily yourself and the console still worked. These are just flat out frying which is much worse. I agree legal action needs to be taken because people are getting screwed out of more money. Sure we all know to buy a warranty now, but not back when they came out. Sorry for expecting a system to work longer then 3 months.
