What's the difference between Xbox 360 Core and Premium?

Apologies for this thread, as I'm sure the topic has been beaten into the ground when the system was originally released.

Regardless, I was hoping someone could clue me in on the primary difference between the Core and Premium units of the Xbox 360.

Specifically, if I were to purchase a Core unit, what else would be required for me to play on a standard definition television?

I remember there being mention of the Premium being the more worthwhile deal, however with Black Friday deals, it might be possible to get a Core unit for less, thus making it potentially worthwhile, even if a few accessories have to be purchased seperately.

What I am trying to get at is... If I would buy a Xbox core unit, what else would I need to buy in order to play games (and save) as a single player on a standard definition television?

    Thanks!

The premium system comes with the hard drive and the cd tray is silver as opposed to white on the core. The premium also comes with a wireless controller and the component HD cables (the core comes with a wired controller and standard AV cables).

Honestly, just save yourself the trouble and get a premium.

[EDIT] The premium system still comes with the option of hooking up to a standard TV as well if you don't have component hook-ups in the back.

    Hope this helps

Thanks, that is what I was looking for..

Now to throw a variable into the mix... Amazon.com is apparently offering 360 Core units for $100 later today. If this is true, and they are readily available, would you then consider it worthwhile to get a 360 at that price, and purchase the hard drive (and possibly also the remote) seperately? I wouldn't need a second controller, HD cables, and a wired controller would be great, but initially, not required..

      Thoughts?

My primary concern is that if I would opt to get the accessories seperately, I would not be "missing out" or limited in how a Core can perform compared to a Premium unit. For instance, I've always loved consoles because they were standardized, and thus, I was hoping the 360 would continue this trend, making both Core and Premium units identical at the system/processor level (and assuming one adds a HD as an accessory).

      Again, thanks.

Yeah MS really did something I found odd in releasing 2 systems. The premium system comes with so much more for just an extra $100. I like sony's idea on the PS3, a few more options but the memery size is the big difference there. MS should have had a bigger HD on the premium and make the core atleast have a HD say maybe a 20Gig.

If it was actually 20 GB, it would've been good. It says 20, but I start out with about 14.

If you can get the core at $100 then go ahead and just buy the HD and wireless controller seperately. I would not count on that Amazon deal though - I've had my eye on it as well. They are only selling 1,000 units at that price, which is nothing. You'll need to be clicking away on your mouse the second those go on sale, and even then you'll still need to have some luck to snag one. Those things will be gone within 10 seconds, no joke.

Yea, I will try it and see how it goes. If I don't get one there, I likely won't get one, as I've not been intending on getting a Next Gen console currently. That being said, a deal like that is hard to pass up.

Like Dmanchild said... if you can get a system for $100, then hell yah, get that and buy the other stuff on the side. The HD is another $100, the controller is $40, and the cables, I believe, are around $40 as well, so you'll definetely be saving in that case.

If you can't score the $100 system, then as I said before, go with the premium.
