Re: Has Microsoft recognized/addressed the faulty issues with the launch 360's?

The problems are not only for the release date 360's but for all premium 360's. My Jan. manufactured 360 just broke down and now I have to send it in. If you buy a 360, buy the Core, and then buy the HDD. The cores seem to have no problems.

EA has stated that Microsoft's claim of 3-5% of 360's being defective is untrue. They say 30-50% of the 360's the company owns has crashed, which I don't deny for a second.

How can you tell when your 360 was made? I looked all over my box and system and see nothing. I get constant freezes on mine, and I bought it in June.

I've tried using a DVD cleaner, and it helped a slight bit for a while - but now it seems to do nothing.

There are some games that never freeze - Lego Star Wars II and NHL 07. Then there are games that I can almost count on to freeze - Gears of War, Madden 07, NBA 2k6/2k7.

I wouldn't use a dvd cleaner at all, the born on date is right on the back.

Why wouldn't you use the cleaner? It did seem to help at first (although, I bought it for my DVD player, and just decided to try it on the 360).

I found the date, thanks. My wireless thing was blocking it. It's an early 2006 - so I guess I can't try to get it sent in and checked out for free :\

I wonder if this is more of a result of less "vocal" people buying the Core unit, or if there is in fact some truth to Core systems being less likely to be faulty.

As an example: It might be a safe assumption to assume that the folks at the message board here generally bought premium units because they read and discussed the value with others. Whereas, those who may not have been aware of the savings buying a premium ultimately offered (non message board users?) may have bought the core units, had their fair share of problems, but were not in the proper environment (OS forums, for instance) to share their experiences.

Just a thought. I haven't heard any first hand accounts of faulty 360's, but have seen a few on message boards, mostly here.

I think the Core vs. Premium failure rate is a coincidence IMO. They are EXACTLY the same system with the exception of the disk tray, wired controller and lack of HDD.

I had a core system added the HD and it still died. MS replaced it free with a new one. Only took 10 business days.
