360 VGA Cable Users: I got a question for ya

I noticed on amazon.com, that there at least 5 different brands of VGA HDTV cables for the 360.

Do any of you own the Monster Cables cable for 53? or the Official microsoft one? or the cheapest one for 16 by some no name brand.

What do you recommend. Should I not worry about ebay and just get the official one in store at bestbuy and be done with it? anyone of you have any success on ebay finding an official one for below retail?

    Thanks

lastly, whats needed so I can just flip a switch so I dont have to unplug any cables? i forgot the name?--

      EDIT:...nm I found it ... KVM switch.

from your guys experience, is there any quality loss when you run your VGA cable through a switch? I want the best and if that means unplugging a cable everytime I need my computer, i think itd be worth it

I use a IOgear USB KVM switch to swap between 2 computers with the same keyboard and monitor. To do the switch, you just tap scroll lock twice.

There's no loss in quality at all. The only problem for me with my switch is that sometimes the computer I'm using momentarily loses the mouse and keyboard - for about a second. It's not that bad and I'm used to it by now. I don't think you should have any problems toggling to your 360's VGA.

I use the MS brand cables as well. Its a minor annoyance switching cables from pc to 360 but the quality of the picture it displays makes it worth it.

I got the VGA cable today and hooked it up to my brothers xbox on my monitor.

on the settings for display. it lists all the resolutions.. I should only go to my monitors MAX? right.

thats 1280x1024, two steps below their max.

what happens if I got above that?

Here's a review of MS' VGA connector that includes a very helpful table listing the various resolutions available. It should help you determine which is the optimal one based on the aspect ratio of the monitor you're using.

              http://hardware.teamxbox.com/reviews...D-AV-Cable/p1/

For what it's worth, I use a 3rd party VGA connector I picked up on eBay for around $10.00. Works great, no problems.

So has the 1080p mode that MS said would be unlocked for the 360 been made available with the most recent update yet? I want to get these cables and see if i can get the 1080p to work.

Ok, thanks, i guess i'm behind the curve on this VGA cable. So the 1080p only is for movies right, the games won't look any different i presume?

Yeah, I believe so. Games might be upconverted not really sure, I don't have a 1080p TV, so haven't tried.

Ive got a question. VGA cables are the cables that are commonly used for PC monitors right? Well my plasma T.V. has one VGA input but overall my plasma only suports 1080i I was just wondering because i thought the point of having this VGA cable is to get that true HD quality with 1080p comin out. can someone help me out on this please? id like to upgrade into VGA instead of just the usual component cables.

Since your TV only supports 1080i, the only advantage for you using the VGA cables would be the upconversion of standard DVDs which is limited to 480p over component cables. If that is of no value to you, stick with the component cables.

Thanks for the reply. Yeh, that makes perfect sense to me. And i think i'll upgrade into one. But is there REALLY that much difference between movies that are being run in 480p compared to 1080i? Also, since my t.v. only supports 1080i, does that mean that i do not need one of those external HD DVD players for my 360?
