Conclusions:

What should have been a dramatic return to form for Sonic, as signalled by the hugely promising trailer videos from earlier this year and the bold decision to use the original Sonic the Hedgehog name, has turned out to be an absolute mess. Like the hedgehogs I used to see as a child on the way to school, this game has been hit by a truck - and even its spines, in this case the name of one of the most loved videogame characters of all times, couldn't provide the slightest defence against the big fat tyres of apathy which have spread it all over the road. This game has one other thing in common with those poor, flattened hedgehogs: seeing it is going to upset a whole lot of children, of all ages.

how is this shocking? Sega is very hit or miss these days, and have generally released crap ever since they turned 3rd party.

The only reviews that matter to me in this house for Sonic is my two boys. They've been playing it non stop since this past Monday. My oldest, 11 gave it 5 out of 5 stars, and my youngest, 7, gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

I noticed the many loading stages for different missions and I noticed you played as Tails in another area.

Sonic may now be age specific instead of appealing to all ages as in the past.

There hasn't been a good Sonic title since Sonic and Knuckles. It's a shame no one at Sega has shown Sonic a little TLC and created a worthy title. New Sonic games should be a major event, but sadly that's no longer the case.

I'm really excited for Sonic and the Secret Rings. After reading the early impressions on IGN, it feels as if Sonic is coming back to his roots and I can't wait.

Personally, I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure, but since SEGA has gone 3rd party, I don't think I've bought and enjoyed a game besides their sports games and VF4. Then again, I can always bust out my Saturn which has the best SEGA games ever.
