New 360 here - loving media center extender

I finally picked up a premium 360 today from gamestop. They had a nice deal going giving 80 bucks for a xbox trade in and free product replacement plan and cod2. I quickly traded cod2 back and got ncaa football used, gears of war, a play and charge, and the transfer kit and mem card. I'm ready to rock.

After banging away at it for the past 3 hours or so, I've finally got the media center extender going and honestly that's what I'm most impressed with right now I only played ncaa for a few minutes, but streaming my media center pc stuff to the tv is what I'm really loving right now.

If anyone has a media center pc and the extender install setup hangs and eats up 100% of the cpu until you kill it, it's an easy registry fix that I'll dig up the link for if anyone needs it.

Unfortunately the 360 is a christmas present, so it goes back in the box for a month after I'm done "testing" it to make sure it wasn't DOA.

Ouch. That is going to be one rough month.

Go here for some cool MCE programs that you can download and use

This is probably not the page you’re looking for. Sorry about that.

Here's a program people are using that's been getting alot of positive feedback when it comes to be able to stream to your 360. It's called TVersity...

TVersity Media Server is a DLNA media server software designed for streaming video, audio and images to your DLNA device (including game consoles, smart TVs, Blu-ray players, and Roku), to mobile devices and to Chromecast. TVersity Screen Server brings screen mirroring to the big screen, it is a DLNA media server software designed for mirroring your PC screen or playing your PC audio to the same devices as above.

Thanks for the link. I have older versions of some of those mce programs, but haven't updated them or looked at what's available in some time.

If you have a media center PC and a home network, you just install the extender software on your pc and then you can stream all of your media center content (including the media center front end) over the network to the tv the 360 is plugged into.

It works just the same at the tv/360 as it does if you were using the pc, so you can use all the dvr functions, pictures, music, and plug-in apps.

Even with Windows XP, you can network with your PC and access music and view photos on your PC through the 360.
I think Windows Media Player 11 with Windows XP also allows for streaming video to the 360.

Speaking of cool media center stuff, can anyone recommend a good TV Tuner and Capture card? I've been looking for one for a while, but can't figure out which one to purchase.

I have to tuner cards in my pc. I use this card to record Hi-def over-the-air. I also have this card to record standard def from my cable company.

I rarely use my tivo anymore since it can't record HD (series 2). I just stream all my shows to the 360.

Re: New 360 here - loving media center extender

Here's a bonus that I just found out for the 360 and the Media Center extender features.

Using HDTVPump I am able to watch streamed HDTV movies seamlessly. Just install HDTVPump on your MCE pc and download a .ts file. I've only found a couple that were in Mpeg2 format at 1080i. There is supposed to be VC-1 encoded .ts streams showing up real soon for an even better picture.

                      HDTVPump link...

At the bottom of this page you'll find some HDTV content that will stream right from your PC to your 360 using the media center functions.

Regular AVI files or DIVX/XVIDs? If the latter, then use this program.

                          Transcode360

Until Microsoft opens up the 360 to play divx, xvid and other codecs, this is one way to view them with no problem at all.

Post if it works and if you had any trouble...I might try to set something like this up if I can watch Divx files on my 360.
