Zelda made me realise something about the Xbox achievement system

I am addicted to the 360 achievement point system. Every time I did something major (like beat the first big boss) I kept waiting for the little bleep and the icon that I had unlocked an achievement. Even after realizing I was doing that I kept waiting for something to tell me I had found ten treasure items and won 25 points. At first I really thought the achievement system was silly, but I am hooked.

    Unbelievable.

I have to completely agree with you. While I don't put games in situations to get achievements, I play a lot of games so have many achievement points. When I do get the beep that I unlocked something, it's a sense of accomplishment. I wish the PS3 and Wii would have copied this.

I find myself thinking the same thing. When i first heard of this I was thinking, yeah right, like i am going to care about stupid achievement points. Now I think it is pure genius.

achievements are one of the best things they added to the 360 IMO. Now, when I go back and play a ps2 game, it feels so...i dunno, different beating a game/boss/level and not hearing the little ding.

I don't have many achievement points for the 360, but I have enough to say that I love the idea. Too bad Nintendo and Sony didn't implement something similar.

But with Zelda, when you beat a boss or open up a new area we get the old Zelda tune when you have accomplished something.

i didn't really care for the achievement system but i like the idea now.. it DEFINATELY gives some replay value to games.. like GoW for instance.. .sure the SP can be beaten in 8 hours on Casual or something like that.. but you'll want to go through it again cuz it's tight AS WELL as earning the achievements for doing it again on hardcore and insane... THEN there's co-op achievements to get... i love the whole idea now.. i find myself goin back to old games just to attempt to get some more achievements.

I completely agree with everything that's been said, and I'd like to ad that I hope publishers try to add value to their games by providing unlockable gamer pics or themes with certain acheivements or by getting all acheivements. I'm not sure if something like this is posssible, but it would definitely add too the overall and replay value of the game.

Of course it's possible. And I think that would be great to have as well.

The achievement points was a brilliant idea looking back now. I find myself playing games I normally wouldn't play just to try and get some achievements. I really like how it keeps track of all of your accomplishments across games too. I am addicted to achievements!

On the quote, I completely agree that having unlockable pics and themes seems to be the next logical step for even more replay value. How cool would it be to go thru GoW for example on Insane difficulty and get a special theme for it, or win an NBA Title in 2K7 and get some special pics and a theme? That sounds cool to me.

I'm finding that I do this in everyday life.
