Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
I called Gamestop today to see if they had any Wii's available and then he said that there is no timeframe and that they suggest buying a 360 instead (I have on already). "You get sick and tired of flailing your arms around" he said. I said back, you shouldn't really be telling customers that. Besides, If you think you can tire out my 5 year old nephew with a Wii, go right ahead..

Nah, it's just some worker giving his opinion. The morons there do it all the time. Some stores are pro Ninendo, Sony, or MS. Just the way it goes it seems. -

I havent been there since I returned Doom 3 for the xbox. The guy was amazed that I didn't like it and acted like a bitch when I returned it for a ps2 game, which was God of War by the way...a much better game.Comment

Re: Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
Any Retail establishment has sales goals sent down to them from Corporate Headquarters. I guarantee his comments were rooted in meeting those sales goals. He's trying to sell you what's there and what will help that store meet their goal.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
I'm sure. But, It'll actually steer me away from buying a Wii there..
If only all consumers were like me.
My local gamecrazy has a signup line for the Wii so no chance there, and I'm not waiting all night at Walmart so I guess I will be forced to visit my local GS tomorrow afternoon.Comment

Re: Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
When I was first deciding between an Xbox and a PS2, the worker recommended the PS2 because it has "better online play and better graphics". I still went with the 'Box and wasn't disappointed.Comment

Re: Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
If I were a head of Gamestop I'd try to cease that. It's one thing to give a personal opinion if your asked, but it's another to have it forced down your throat.
I see Wii's may not be @ the GS now until Sunday, but I'm going to take the ten minute drive just incase. I'll blow a gasket it I'm told to buy a 360 instead..Comment

As for Stores. EVERY STORE is different in terms of the staff and what they push on you as their preference. When I had a store a couple years ago I made sure that Laid out like this by my staff...
Gamecube = Kids more so (mainly an E rated machine)
PS2 = family system (wide range of kid and adult games)
XBox = more for 18 and older (primarily more T and M rated games)
Last year the EB at the Cary Towne Center, half of the staff was "wait for the PS3, it'll be better." Then the biggest Sony *** kisser in the store, she's now on the MS side of the fence since she found the PS3 didn't live up to the hype machine.
Again, they have 360s in Stock and want to move those units. All the retailers are looking for bigger and bigger sales dollars each year. At some point, you peak for a few years. Is it really that bad to making 100s of millions of dollars. If you're making relativlely the same cash flow, your stocks don't drop like a rock.BeyondMediaOnline.comComment

Re: Is this unethical? (Gamestop)
True. I'm not in NC, though. I'm in PA.(Just a huge UNC fan, my father played football there in the late 60s early 70s).
I'm just surprised they allow the workers to push their own agendas, that is all..
Sales are one thing, but saying the Wii isn't a good system wouldn't be the way I'd want my employees saying it..
Let's say they tried pushing me on a 360 after telling me a Wii is a bad system. I already have a 360 and they convince me the Wii is not worth waiting for. Guess what, they're out a future Wii sale..Comment
