Do you mean XBOX1 or 360? The 360 is starting to turn a profit now at $75 at console.

If there is no PS4................................then take a look at what has happened to the WWF/E with no real competition.................or EA/Madden.

So if its true and Sony switches to software then does that mean we will see MLB The Show on XBOX 360? Do they fall under as 1st Party developer and can use MLB licensing because the PS3 exists?

          Sony begs to differ...

Sony says it would be "rather short-sighted" to suggest there won't be a PlayStation 4, after Nomura analyst Yuta Sakurai did just that.

Speaking to the Financial Times in the wake of Sony's decision to to promote Kaz Hirai, Sakurai said he thought SCE's future would be determined by the former US boss's relationship with worldwide studios boss Phil Harrison.

But far more interesting were his thoughts on Sony's direction. "The appointment of Hirai could be the start of a shift from hardware to software," he suggested. "I cannot now imagine a PlayStation 4." (You think you've got it bad, Yuta - most of us in Europe cannot now imagine a PlayStation 3.)

Inevitably, Sony has responded, with US spokesperson Dave Karraker telling GameSpot: "Following the launch of the PlayStation 3 just a few weeks ago, and witnessing the huge consumer demand for the product, I think it would be rather short-sighted for anyone to predict there might not be a next generation of PlayStation product."

Indeed, Sony's never made any suggestion that it plans to stop with PS3 - Hirai himself having noted that a PS4 is in his plans, and Phil Harrison having speculated on whether it will use discs or an e-distribution model.

Someone had mentioned this on digg, and it actually makes sense.

Since sony is losing money, Microsoft can push their weight around a bit since they dont mind losing millions( or billions) to kill the competitor. Imagine that Microsoft decides to put out the next gen console a couple of years earlier than necessary ( as they did this time around). This will put Sony in a very problematic position, simply because they now have to introduce their next console, all while still bleeding money from this generation.

What if MS decides to lower the price to force sony to do the same? The other thing is that they have to decide if they want to be profitable, but lose the consumer because of the high price tag, or lower the cost to bring in the consumer, but lose their *** in the red since they have to sell the system at a bigger loss than projected.

It's a war of attrition, and MS is trying to bleed Sony dry IMO. Is this a bad thing? I think it is because competition is good. But whatever, i am just rambling now.

well MS's xbox division as a whole is already in the hole. They lost 4 billion on the frist xbox in 4 years. The 360 will have to make some serious profit to make that back quickly.

Not really, like many companies do, they'll report loses in one division but their other divisions that have made a profit helps balance things out for the company as a whole.

1 week after the launch of the ps3, sony is going to decide to give up on future consoles? A part of their business where they have sold over 200 million units worldwide? Rightttt.

I find it hard to believe that they'll give up the console business on the results of a week of sales.

It would be a rash and very silly decision on their part.
