    FPS games...recommendations?

    Hey guys,

Benn playing nothing but sports games all my life and with all the shooting games out now for the 360 (GRAW, G.O.W., F.E.A.R, ) I wanted to try something other than a sports game. Thus I was wondering what would be a good shooting/FPS game to start with for a person that is new to these types of games? I have read the threads about GOW and GRAW and how good those games are especially multiplayer. I know I should probably try renting the games to find out for myself, but was hoping that anyone could give their opinions/suggestions as well. I won't be playing multiplayer as I don't game online. Thanks a lot for your help.

I was just like you....only played sports games....until Halo 2. I think that would be a good one to start with. I don't like all FPS (some of them move a little too slow for me, like GR) but I really like Halo and am currently really into GoW.

If you're not going to be playing multiplayer, I'd probably skip GRAW. I'd give GOW a rent, since you can beat the single player mode in under 10 hours.

Gears of War isn't a first person shotter. Neither is Graw. Rainbow Six Vegas is though, great game.

If you want the easiest game to start with and then make a transition to something harder, there is nothing better to start with than COD 2. Start with this, then take the next step to GOW. Then go to RB6 Vegas. Don't mess with GRAW, as GOW and RB6 Vegas does everything better.

I think you'd have to toss in F.E.A.R. as a good single player experience too.

Do these games have multiple save points so that when you die or run out of health you can just resume from where you left off ? Or do you have to start all over from the beginning of the level?

all the new games seem to have save checkpoints. As for the games, just about any shooter on the market is good with a few stand outs like GEARS and R6 series. Also played FEAR for PC, sick game!

FEAR is the best single player FPS experience I have ever played. I missed it on the PC, so when I got it for the 360 it was brand new to me. The AI, graphics, and storyline are top notch to say the least.

Technically 3rd person shooters....but they're lumped in with FPS. When I think of FPS, I think of games like Halo, GoW, Rainbow Six, etc.

He said good shooting/FPS games. I'm pretty sure GOW or GRAW would be considered shooting games.

One of the best shooters besides GoW is F.E.A.R. it's creepy and the AI is almost human like and just like GoW you will die a lot in F.E.A.R. even on "easy".

I rented the game and i'll buy it when the price drops.

I have 2 also say F.E.A.R... It's easy to pick-up & the ENEMY AI is the best I've seen in a FPS. Add the SLO-MO function & atmosphere & you have a gr-8 FPS Experience...

Here's a screen of F.E.A.R running off of my set-up
