Better Single Player Mode- Gears of War or Splinters Cell (360)

I am usually STRICTLY a Sports Gamer....I own probably 3 same games every year, NCAA football, College Hoops and Madden....The only non-sports game i have ever owned and liked was the Splinter Cell series for the xbox...
Well, i've had my 360 for awhile now (since last years fathers day) and again I have only owned those 3 games mentioned plus NBA2k7 this year. I've always gotten bored with any games that has levels, i've always just lost interest in those types of games...whether it be the boring storyline, stuck at the same level, or just the repetitive nature of the game (shoot everything in front of you ala BLACK)...i guess thats why i've only been into splinter cell because i always found the story intriguing and somewhat realistic (i dont know)....

But even being strictly a sports gamer, i can't help but to hear all the excitement about Gears of War. I mean, is it that good.....as a single player mode. I don't have xbox live (and dont really have an interest to play online)....i would get both games, but i am married and deal with a 3 year old child and dont really have the time (or money for that matter) to play both. Being that i liked Splinter Cell, i was really interested on how it played on my 360....I was just wondering which game has the best single player mode...storyline, gameplay, etc....which game would u say keeps your interest?

I love Splinter Cell: Double Agent. Love the double agent aspect and the necessity to choose your objectives (or at least I had to due to time limitations on certain areas).

Gears of War is pretty cool too, I have the game. But Splinter Cell: Double Agent appeals to me more.

Splinter Cell is a better Single Player Experience.

I suggest getting a blockbuster game pass for $19.99 playing both (albeit one at a time) and save yourself some money. Of course if you want to play long-term online, I would go with GOW, but since you said single playe I would go the game pass route.

The answer to your question is simple.

Neither game is of the same respects. Gears of war is a great single player shooter.

Double Agent is a great action stealth game.

Both are wonderful in its own respects. But as far as length and fun factor they are both, even!!! So its a tie as far as that goes.

But like the other person said rent first and purchase the one you like most. With the power of Xbox Live and Downloading new content. There is no telling what the future holds as far as additional levels and missions for either game....

I'd say Gears of War, just because it's something new. Splinter Cell just felt like more of the same to me after playing the first few Splinter Cell games, even with the whole double agent twist.

Thats hard to answer, Gears is a great shooter, Splinter Cell is a great stealth game. I enjoyed the heck out of both single players, and they both were about the same length.

As for keeping your interest, Gears of War has kept my interest longer than Splinter Cell did.

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend either one.

While they're both quality titles, to be sure, I don't think either offers the depth a single-player experience should. I bought Doube Agent back when it came out, and I beat it twice in a matter of a couple weeks. I rented Gears and beat it before it was due.

Until an absolutely 'must have' game comes along (the new GTA comes to mind), don't waste your money. Stick to renting.

                        No brainer...

Gears all the way...very immersive single player campaign.

People complaining about it being too short have to be younger gamers who don't have kids and other responsibilities.....for me, it was the perfect length.

Same here. Single player is long enough for me and i can't wait to play through it again on hardcore and i rarely play through a game again once it's completed.

Also if you can get online with a decent bunch of people the multi-player is great fun as well.....

Agreed. When I was younger, I wanted to hear that a game took 40 hours to beat, now I'm looking for less than 10.

What do you mean by depth? Are you talking about longevity? If so, I disagree with that as the primary assessment of what makes a good singleplayer game. And IMHO, Double Agent and Gears of War are really good games. Maybe short, but that doesn't matter as long as they provide quality gaming experiences.

Only RPG's and, as far as I know, sandbox games (like GTA) with a very loosely structured story generally need a lot of gameplay hours invested in it in order to beat the game. Truth be told, I got sick and tired of GTA within the first 15 hours of the game. I've played GTA Vice City, and San Andreas, and I haven't beaten either one. Not because I couldn't, it's because the games were stretched too long, and seemed boring to me by the end. I just lost interest at that point, and it's not like the story or characters were interesting enough to make me WANT to finish the game.
