Nintendo Replacing 3.2 Million Wii Straps

Free replacements available on their website.

Even with proper care, the straps securing Wiimotes to players' hands are adequate, at best. Nintendo's taken all the complaints online to heart and decided to offer replacement straps, which were already included in Wii machines shipped in early December. You don't have to pay a dime; the only requirement is to own a Wii and fill out a form on Nintendo's website. Additionally, Nintendo of Japan told the Associated Press they will be recalling 3.2 million Wiimotes and replacing them with the improved straps. "The decision comes after reports that some users in the United States threw their controllers when playing with Wii sports software," said a Nintendo spokesperson.

Nitpicking: The post title is misleading. Offering replacements is not a recall - the only thing defective about the current strap is the user.

        It is great service though.

it's always a positive when the only thing about your console that doesn't work is an arm strap.

Isn't that something? The few problems I've heard about seemed isolated and very limited - unlike the 360 failures and the scaling issues with the PS3. Someone is sure to point out that the Wii is old tech - but there's something to be said for proven reliability.

Of course, I still like vinyl records and the warm sound of tube-driven amplifiers.

I've never once come close to letting go of the wiimote. Those people losing hold of it must really get into the games.

Ah yes nothing beats a Mcintosh Tube Amplifier.

I had it happen once but the strap worked thank god. I don't even really play "hard" or anything. I was playing baseball and when I swung the controller slipped out.

what if you threw a remote through a tv screen, will they replace the tv as well?

maybe nintendo should include some golf or batting gloves as well as straps.

I bet these people are gonna be happy-campers...

Having taken a good kicking, Liz then tried to intervene with disastrous results. She approached me from the side, appearing from my blind spot, whilst I was performing a slashing movement. I hit her with full force right in her eye!
