    XBOX power cord

My XBOX died and Microsoft is telling me to try a new power cord so I called Nov 30th and they were gonna send me one. I called last week and they said they have no tracking number but I should wait a little longer that it is at their warehouse.

Can I try any cord? I seen a Nykko one that works with any console so can I just pull one from my ps2 and try that with the XBOX? anyone have any luck with this?

yeah you can use the PS2 one. It's all the same. XBox had a recall on their cords a while back because they could start a fire and they sent new ones with protection against that on it. But anyway, I switch out my XBox and PS2 ones all the time.

      actually...

I believe the problem originates from inside the xbox, the power supply on some earlier xbox. The point of getting a giant hairdryer style cord is that if it shorts, it will stop at the cord and not burn your house down.

Swapping the cord with a ps2 cord does nothing really to fix the problem. Granted, I had mine for a while before this problem ever became public and it might not have done anything, but I went ahead and used what they sent, since it was 100% free.

As for not getting the cord yet, I got mine in around 3 days or so..MS was really on the ball with that I think. I'd just call again or whatever to ensure they'll send it out. They took this issue seriously and they'll get you one if they determine you need it.

Got my power cord, of course the XBOX doesnt work. I called 1800-4myxbox and they will replace the power supply for $79.90 + I have to pay to ship it to them. I found a kiosk in a mall that will fix the xbox for $40-$50 (I told them the power supply was dead) Any reason why I shouldnt do this? I saw on the web the problem can be fixed by soldering in a new fuse, dont know how risky this is, anyone know?
