    Cleaning Xbox Disk Drive

I've had my Xbox for almost 5 years now. I've been getting frequent "dirty disk errors" for about the past 2 or 3. I sent it to Microsoft to try to get it refurbished. It came back and ran better, only to dip back into crappiness a few weeks later. I ran a lense cleaning disk through it too and it worked a little better for about a week.

Usually, I can play a game for a little (practice), then shut the system off, open the tray, restart... a bunch of random stuff... and it'll run decent after that. However, the past few times it hasn't worked, and I'm willing to resort to potentially killing the system, considering it's already unplayable for the most part, in order to get the thing in working condition.

I found this website... http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/c..._dvd_drive.htm ... on cleaning the disk drive.

Can anyone suggest a better instruction list?

Or perhaps some tips from personal experience?

Or maybe steer me away from this if it isn't a good option?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm just trying to get the Xbox in working condition again.

    Thanks.

Yup i'll second what Gilateen said.

As a suggestion I always keep a game in the drive. It helps keep dirt from finding it's way onto the lens. Give Llamma a try they have everything Xbox related and they are a reputable company. I have bought from them in the past.

Rodster, would buying that new drive all together help me? I mean, I assume it would and it beats the hell out of spending $100+ on a whole new console if my cleaning experience doesn't work.

I can't answer that 100% but I would be inclined to say yes because you have been getting drive errors and they are prone to wear. I would email or call llama and explain your problem and they will tell you exactly what they suspect the problem to be.

They also have a fairly inexpensive repair program like $79 for an Xbox repair and you can find that on their website. Btw that Samsung is a new drive that they sell.
