Question for you guys re: console vs pc and HDTV

I thought this might get more views here so...

So far I have not taken the plunge and picked up any of the next gen console systems. I actually find alot of the games, especially shooters, to be difficult to play on consoles. I am much more comfortable with the mouse and keyboard for those types of games. Also, I don't think you can find a better baseball game that MVP 2005 for the pc with all the mods, totalclassics, updated stadiums, uniforms, etc.

My question really is, are there pitfalls in getting an real solid gaming computer (ie: Velocity) with a videocard like the GeForce 7900 GT that has DVI out and hooking into a 40 inch HDTV? I know alot of games are not being made for the pc anymore, but if I am mostly interested in baseball, football, and WWII shooters, it seems like this would be the smary way to go?

Curious as to pitfalls and your thoughts...

    Thanks a bunch!

It just seems like it would be awkward, sitting on the couch trying to game with a keyboard and mouse. Maybe if you had some kind of custom table, like the ones they have for hospital beds?

I have my PC and 360 hooked up to a HDT 27inch TV.

I basically only play 360 games.

However, I have played a few sports games on the PC...and I've tried Oblivion for the PC...

They all work fine and look great. You'll need a wireless keyboard obviously.

The main problem IMO is it all feels a bit 'awkward'.

I don't know about 40 inches though. My brother has around that size and we hooked a PC up to it once and it was just too big for text based stuff.

Get a samsung HDTV...they are great for both.

I don't have a computer (I want) but rather use the "house" computer. I have a CRT monitor that I use strictly for gaming. My view would be to get anything over the size of 25 for a PS3/XBOX 360 and just use a smaller sized monitor for the PC. I love the PC because of the RTS on the real, but I'll be darned if I didn't fall in love with the 360. I know you don't like the shooters and other games, but if you practice a bit, you'll get use to playing them and eventually reap the benefits.

          Pitfalls?...no

You got the big tv with the superiority of a mouse and keyboard for shooters and RTS games...what more could you ask for? Also, the most underrated aspect of PC gaming is mods. I say you're making a great decision if you in fact do decide to go this route.

Mian negative of PC games is a real lack of sports games.

            No 2K games...

This is OpSports...so I'm presuming you're a sports guy. If so, consoles the only way too go IMO.

I'll ALWAYS have a PC rig. If I can get the game on PC I will.
Depends on the game of course. ie MVP Baseball=PC because of the mods etc. RTS games are really must have PC gaming.

                Thanks for the info guys!

I guess my last question is would there be any degradation in graphics based on the fact that it would now be on a much larger screen (40 inch Sony HDTV - can do 480, 720, and 1080i). Would the images look stretched or awkward in your opinion? Again, assuming a GeForce 7900 GT or something in that family.

                Thanks again...
