    Funny thing happened at EB.

I went to EB tonight to trade in Marval Ultimate Alliance towards a copy of GoW. As I walk in the door I hear a man ask the clerk if they had any used copies of Marval for the 360 in? I had just handed over my copy to him as he replied they had no used copies on hand. He tells me they can give me $24 for it. I ask him what game the guys in the corner are looking for again and he tells me Marval for the 360. I turn down his offer of $24 dollars, got my game back walked over to the man and said I have a used copy I am looking to sell. He offers me $25 dollars and i just laughed, told him he would have to do better. I remembered I only paid $50 new(on sale) so I accepted $30. Then to make it better I told them I was looking for GoW used and handed me the store copy which with me EB card saved me 10% and walked out paying $23 for GoW in PERFECT used condition.

wish that would happen to me. the normal situation is there are ppl there shopping, i watch them get raped, then i get in the rape line, take my raping and walk out of the store like what just happened. 2 or 3 games lighter and 1 new game which will lead me to another raping in like 2-3 weeks.

      LionsFan20,

Technically they could have kicked you out of the store for that.
      How? No solicitation.
On the other hand, it's good that you were able to get GOW cheap.

Hmmm....it would be cool if someone could start some kind of legit game barter club. It would be great if say you want GRAW and someone wanted M: UA if you could have simply traded them and saved yourself the pain of a spanking by EB. Of course there would have to be some kind of rating system and eventually there would be some jerk that scams people. Even with all of that it would have to be better than EB/Gamestop's ripoff system.

I feel the same way...I traded in NBA 2k7 for CH 2k7 - problem is I got raped on the trade in (only $23 or so for NBA 2k7) and it turns out I liked that game better - first time in years that is the case.

There is no way that I am going to trade in CH and buy NBA 2k7 again, so I'm trying to find someone who will do a straight up swap....either that or I'll have to wait until there is a price drop on NBA...should have just kept the game this year.

"Buy low, sell high" is exactly the reason why I started renting online.

I'm not arguing with it, though. It's smart business and obviously it still works. I wouldn't fault anyone for following the system, either. People like to own their own title - I used to be the same way until I got tired of spending too much money.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

And that is why one of my Xmas presents is a subscription to a rental service...I will still buy games I know I will keep for an extended period, but it was just getting ridiculous how much money I was spending on games I would wind up trading in within 2 months.

That's why I rent. I might rent too many at once but I need choices. (4-game plan Gamefly.... 3-game plan Gameznflix and 2 game plan at Gameznflix)

I look at the weak trade in values the same way I look at Ebay. If no one would trade in for the low amounts they would either raise the amount of not do trade ins. Same way with Ebay. If people wouldn't buy at twice the amount of worth people wouldn't "rape" on Ebay either. I don't blame the people on Ebay no more than I blame EB/GS for the trade in amounts.

There used to be a site called the Used Game Trading Site. It rocked... because your "old" Game was "new" to someone else. So you could get max value for your used games.

Re: Funny thing happened at EB.

I've never traded in games at retailers. I have had great experiences on eBay though. I'll generally get $10 less then retail back on any game sold, unless it's really old and nearly worthless.

It's cheaper for me to buy a game new, play it until I lose interest (usually a month or less), and then sell it than it is to rent it for the same amount of time.

Trading in at the store seems like a total ripoff to me, but it's cheap and easy, so I guess that's why people do it.
