Re: Is the PS3 more stable than the 360?

My 360 suffered it's first lockup I can recall tonight. I was playing NFSC and I was playing online, real fun game. I went to check the tab where it shows the people you just met online. I got to the tab and it had missing all the gamertags.

It was a hard lock and I had to do a hard reset by shutting off the console. I was expecting the 3 Red Rings but it came right up...strange.

i would definitely say that the build quality of the 360 is inferior to the ps3. my 360 died about 3 months after i got it at launch and the replacement unit i have has given me problems at times too. though none of the problems have been major ones, it still makes me wonder if it will last long term. on the other hand, my ps3 is quiet, cool, and hasn't given me any problems at all. in fact, my 6 year old son left it on all night once, and the next morning, it was as cool as could be. i'm sure that if i would have left the 360 on all night it would have fried the disc inside and probably would have died itself. so if i had to judge, the ps3 is the better built product.

If reliability is what makes it for you then the PS3 seems to be the way to go. I just had my launch 360 give me the three rings of death two days ago. I turned it off and then 10 seconds later turned it back on and whammy its done for. Never had a single problem with it up to that point. So I know what you mean about chasing down a system, its winter break for the next half month so I'm trying to find someone that will loan me their system for the remainder of break or until my system comes back from M$.

About half of my friends with 360's have had some major problem and recently one of my friends sent his in, got a refurbished 360 back which ended up breaking down. Frustrating to say the least.

My launch 360 system was hot and loud

my new system 9/06 build is cool as a cucumber and quiet as a whisper.

I'd say all of MS's problems are behind them as far as build quality now goes.

I wouldn't say that. I have a newer one and it has froze three times with Oblivion and once with 2K6 in the last two weeks. I must admit if this one goes I don't know if I will buy another one.

I hope your right Klocker but I need more convincing of that. I also remember reading a couple of members who had their 360's die on them and their stamp date was late in the year as well.

My brother and I both have launch 360's and we've been lucky so far. We haven't had any problems yet. *knocks on wood*

***Knock on Wood*** my 360 is a launch and still going. I have had a few instances where the DVD drive was getting loud, but the last 2 weeks it's not as loud. I wonder if something fixed itself or I hate to say, calm before the storm.

I feel the same about the MS warranty. When mine craps out, I'm going to the store to buy a new 360 with warranty and when I get the refurb back it goes right on ebay to get my money back. I'm not messing with other people's problems, I've heard too many guys on here have to go through 2-4 systems via refurb crapping out.

Can you demand on the front end that they either fix your current one or replace it with a new one? Has anybody requested this?

I don't know how truly refurbished the replacement consoles are, but each time I've received one (twice), the console's "born-on date" was only maybe a month or so old.

Now...maybe they put a new sticker on the back of the thing when they refurbish it, I don't know. But I seriously did not notice any flaws whatsoever with either of the 2 replacement consoles I've been sent. You know how usually when you get a refurb anything, you can tell it's been used? A scratch here? A smudge there? These things were as clean as a brand new machine.

I haven't heard of anyone requesting this, but I doubt they can tell you no if you ask them to fix your current console. It might take longer than 2 weeks to return though.

That is not too bad with them only being about a month old.
