That's all you need to do. If you switch the cable from the modem to the 360 you'll need to reset the modem by unplugging the power and then restarting it.

That works, or you could buy a router that'll eliminate the need to switch wires, and restart your modem, etc.

Yeah, router will be a big help. Having to switch gets tedious after a while

If you get a router make sure you get a Xbox Live certified one. Here's a list:

Mine isn't compatible but it still works..

After looking at compatibility I can see why mine works, it's the compact version of the WRT54G. (WRT54GC)

Non-compatible routers will work but they won't work as good as one of the routers on the list. It has to do with the NAT. The routers on the list have open NAT's. Other routers will work but will have problems connecting to some matches or other players. I highly recommend getting one of the routers on the list.

I had a D-Link router and while it worked there were some people I could not connect to online. All of which I believe had a Linksys router. I've since switched to a wireless Linksys and have connected to those same people without any issues.
I didn't have the wireless D-Link so you might be fine.
