    Question about framerate: EA

I'm not sure where to ask this, but I just got done reading IGN's review of March Madness 07, and they are claiming the framerate is not the greatest.

My question is why do you think EA continues to let this be an issue with their games? Sure, you can say, "because EA sucks," but there's got to be a reason why all of their sports tiles suffer from framerate issues.

My thinking is that they don't think it's necessary to run their games at a solid 60fps. If you can run it at 30fps without any hiccups then that's fine, but even in Madden 07, a game in it's 2nd season on the 360, it seems to be shifty. For me, the playability of many of their titles would be much better if they could get these framerate issues out of the way.
Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.

    Re: Question about framerate: EA

Says a lot about their 3d artists but probably more about their engines... the one's that despite being claimed as new every year, are probably more than 5 years old.

It's obvious that they can't get stable frame rates when they add a few extra polys or use higher quality textures etc, but it probably doesn't help that the re-used engines have code written on top of old code which was written on top of even older code.

Then you can add to it the fact that EA (sports games especially) like to just add a couple of features each year which tells us that there is no way in hell that their games have a 12 month development period. Probably more like 5 or 6, so the rush jobs don't do them any favours either.

But more than that, I think they just don't care about their customers and fans. Look at disgraces like Live 07 and various bugs throughout their games over the years. They just want the game on the shelves and take no time to polish and iron out any errors.

It's absolutely unforgivable for any game to drop below 30 frames these days and really, devs should be aiming for 60. The difference is night and day.

I'd personally take a big graphics drop on games if it meant they ran at 60fps.

It's a reflection on the company as a whole. If you've ever had to visit the EA Sports website, try and find something your looking for or do a search. You will notice huge a lag as you are trying to enter letters in the search box. I played on their NFSC servers and the lag is so bad the game is almost unplayable. It's beyond pathetic.

I uninstalled the Madden 360 updates because it too created a weird lag moving from one screen to the next.

So framerate issues in any of their sport games don't surprise me. This is the result of a company becoming to big and always looking for the next studio purchase. They need to re assess their priorities.

Yeah, I would say just a lack of optimization of code.
