Hard Drive Required 360 Games Coming??
It's in the loose talk section of Game Informer (p.34).
Microsoft will shortly add new information to its XBOX 360 boxes requiring developers to tell gamers whether or not the title "Requires Storage." Such a requirement would also be on teh front of the box. Although no more is known at this point, this would seem to point toward some games requiring a hard drive in order to play them. Other information is also be added to boxes, including another check box denoting "Online Only." Preseumably, this labeling will be for MMOs or other titles that require a 'Net connection to play.Tags: None -

I don't know what to think about this other than the fact that they are going to separate their consumers which might not be that appealing in the long run. I hope that they don't make the biggest games they have coming out to be required hard drive games. I'd hate to have games like Mass Effect, Halo 3, or any of those types of big franchises to all of sudden hold those marks on the boxes. Very interesting that they're taking this stand now instead of earlier, like when they freaking were about to release the system. Just makes sense to hav epacked it in with the system.Comment

Agreed. And if someone owned the system for any amount of time and didn't get the hard drive, they probably aren't too serious about using the console.Comment

But then what the heck was the point of the Core? They could've gone the PS3 route as far as the HD goes.Comment

Really couldn't tell you why they went with a no hdd version in the first place. It has always baffled (love that word) me.Comment

the core was a price point that they could flaunt as being low. If you got it, you'll wind up paying more for the stuff that comes with the premium.
This is a no brainer. They should require the HDD now anyways. You're supposed to have a HDTV, broadband, and games are 59.99 each, and they don't expect people to buy a HDD...
lol.
I have a HDD in my ps2, and love how games stream on there with almost no loading at all. If we could put our purchased games on the HDD, that would be great, and would lead us to buy much bigger HDD's.Last edited by bkfount; 02-06-2007, 10:15 AM.Comment

Re: Hard Drive Required 360 Games Coming??
There was no point to the Core. Microsoft should never have released two different versions of their console. They released the Core so that they can say there is a 360 "version" out there for $299, which looks nicer than seeing a $399 price tag, but in reality, the Core was a rip-off and only split the user base with some non-HDD owners out there, preventing developers from utilizing it in any creative way.Comment

there really is no point of the core and at this point I would hope that most core users are seriously thinking about a Hard drive. That being said bring on some MMO's for the 360 I got tired of WOW and need a new MMO, age of conan looks good.Comment

It makes sense since pretty much anybody who bought the Core only got one because there were no premiums left.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment
