    What's the best single-player shooter?

I'm looking to purchase 1 and I'm primarily interested in the single player aspect since I'm not on Xbox Live. Which is the best?

I went with GRAW. Gears is cool and graphically amazing, not a bad choice at all. Still I believe I had a better time playing GRAW. COD3 was meh single player and since you don't have live I wouldn't personally go with that. I havent played R6V so I can't comment on that.

I guess it depends on what you're looking for in a shooter. If you're looking for strategy and tactical ops, go with GRAW (or wait for GRAW 2). If you like tactical shooters but not as much as GRAW, Rainbow 6 Vegas is a lot of fun. If you like straight shooting the sh*t out of things and chainsawing enemies (way too much fun) then Gears is your game. I haven't played Splinter Cell, but to me that seems more like a spy game than a shooter.

Yeah, I forgot to add in my quip about Splinter Cell. I agree with sportsdude, if your looking for a shooter, Splinter Cell isn't it, unless you like shooting your way through missions which you can't do on the HQ missions. Still a fun game but I haven't touched it since beating it the first time. More of a stealth game than shooter.

I went with GRAW, though I'm a bit partial in regard to multiplayer.

The only other shooter I beat single player on the list was 'Gears' and I really didn't jive with that one. At least with GRAW you didn't fail a mission if you didn't save your teammates...though it did make your life a living hell!

I like the single player on Vegas. I know it is pretty sweet online, but the single player isn't too shabby either. You may also want to try out FEAR. It has a pretty lengthy single player. It can get repetitive, but I enjoyed the heck out of it. The AI and the shootouts are second to none.

I tend to lean toward TPSs but if I might give FEAR a rental. Does it have cover. I've grown to love cover from Gears of War and if I'm not mistaken it's also in Rainbow Six: Vegas.

As of right now, GRAW is the frontrunner because it's the cheapest. However, Rainbow Six looks really nice in the vids I looked at that Kev put up when the game was released.

It doesn't have the elaborate cover system of Gears or Vegas, but you can lean out from behind objects to shoot. If you are standing/crouching behind an object, you hit the D-pad left or right and your upper body leans out and you can shoot. Its not a strategic shooter like Vegas, but I relly enjoyed it and the horror-esque story to it. The gunfights in FEAR are glorious and the AI is scary good. Rent it and see if you like it. If you want strategy, Vegas may be your better bet. I loved FEAR and VEGAS both. You can't go wrong with either.

I'm liking what I'm hearing about Vegas but it's still almost 50 bucks.

If you just want a good single player experience, and not really a straight-up shooter...

The Condemned Still don't own it...but I plan on picking it up soon, but I've played it at my friends and people on my floor and it's a great freaking game.

Up to Crackdown, it was the best game on the 360 for single player for me.

So is the consensus that Crackdown trumps all of the major games that folks are playing (the games in the poll)?

Also, if I want a strategic shooter is R6V the route I should go in?

Yes. Vegas is a great strategic shooter. GRAW is pretty good too, but I like Vegas better - just seems smoother and less frustrating.
