FC Twin - NES and SNES Games

I recently ordered the FC Twin console:

    http://www.retrothing.com/2007/02/fc_twin_console.html

$40+shipping to be able to play any NES or SNES game seemed reasonable to me(I contemplated getting a Wii instead, that may have been a smarter move, but I didn't need to spend that much right now).

The console is a gift for my girlfriend, which means I will get to play it as often as I want. I got Super Mario World and she also wants Donkey Kong Country which I will order online soon.

    I've got a few questions....

    1) Anybody else own this console? I'd never heard of it, I'm not expecting it to be the highest quality thing, but if it lasts a couple of years I'd be fine with it. I have the console(it came new, still in shrink wrap) and it played Super Mario World fine, so i guess it is off to a good start.

    2) Any idea as to the best places to order SNES or NES games online? eBay is a little sketchy to me, most listings i have looked at don't comment on the condition of the game. I used half.com to get SMW, I'm wondering it there is anywhere cheaper? Most SNES games on half run about $10-$15 for "like new" quality.

    3) The most important question: what games should I get? I had both an NES and SNES, but I can't remember too many games. DKC is a must and I will probably get Mario All-Stars as well, but I'm not sure what else.

Pretty neat system, it is crazy that Nintendo's patent on both consoles runs out, I would think invtenting a game console would make it theirs for good, but whatever. The FC Twin can't use the system names though, it plays "8-Bit" and "16-Bit" games rather than NES and SNES games, I thought that was funny. It is really amazing how great the SNES controller is 20 years later, simple yet effective and comfortable.

    a few game suggestions:

NES: any Mega Man, Dragon Warrior, Zelda, Baseball Stars, any Tecmo Football game, Ice Hockey, Contra, TMNT: The Arcade Game, Off Road, and the best game that nobody ever knew about - Thundercade.

SNES: F-Zero, any Mega Man, Zelda, Griffey Baseball (the first one), NBA Jam (locating cheat codes is a must), Final Fantasy III, Killer Instinct, Super Tecmo Bowl, Mario Kart.

Thanks, I completely forgot about some of those games, they bring back great memories.

I hate to admit it, but i never played a Tecmo Bowl when I had either system. I was an RBI Baseball player on NES and the only football I played on SNES was Madden. Which of the versions of Tecmo is the best?

I LOVED Tecmo Super Bowl on the NES, but Baseball Stars is a MUST have. That game was WAY before it's time. I would play that game for HOURS. You could create your own rosters, select the type of player, adjust skill levels. The game was PERFECT, but also VERY hard to find.

if you're an RPG fan, then you must also get Breath of Fire and Chrono Trigger for the SNES. A warning, finding those copies will prove difficult and costly. I saw Chrono Trigger, a used copy, at my local used game store and it was selling for $45.

which is why emulation is a beautiful thing. the same goes for baseball stars. plus with emulation baseball stars, you never have to worry about holding the reset to keep from loosing your saved game.

nice to see another IU fan on these boards

thought of some more games: Gun Smoke (NES), Actraiser (SNES), Bubble Bobble (NES), Metroid (NES), Dr. Mario (NES)...oh man, so many more I just can't think of right now...

Just make sure you find the list on the internet. Not all games play 100% correctly.

Could you point me towards a list? I can't locate a list and I've read numerous places that claim the FC Twin plays any game, except Duck Hunt since you can't plug the NES gun into the console. There are supposedly some NES sound issues, but the SNES stuff seems to be dead on.

I am not trying to be negative, but you would be much better off getting a top loader of ebay and Super Nes wherever if you want 100% perfection.

I can't presently find the list, but I think there is like 97% compatibility rate (which is good) but the most of the games just aren't the same.

This one says the Super Nes is emulate perfectly and echoes the same NES problems.

Thanks. I don't mind being negative, I only paid $40 + shipping for the system, if it holds up long enough to get through Super Mario World and a DKC game I will be satisfied. Plus, I would like to get some good information on it to know what to expect about the possible life span.

The first link seems to have issues with small disparities in the games compared to original consoles. This is something I will be fine overlooking as long as it doesn't interfere with the gameplay. I haven't noticed any problems yet with the one game I've been playing, but I imagine if I grow my collection of games I will eventually run into something.

I considered looking into finding a good used SNES instead, but the FC Twin seemed like too good of a deal to pass up with the added NES functionality. I'm not sure if it will work out in the long run, it seems like the FC Twin could stop working soon, but I've also read some impressions where it runs fine. I'm alright with minor issues(especially sound issues, not a big deal at all to me), I'm just hoping the console holds up for a decent amount of time. I'll probably go with a quality uses system if I do it again, but I figured this was worth a try.

Thanks for the help, I knew very little about the system before ordering, I am happy to read any info on it your have to offer.

I want to bump this a bit to ask for any advice anyone may have on cleaning SNES or NES games? I got two in the mail recently and neither would work right away, it took a bit of blowing on the contacts to get them to play. Is there any good way to clean them?
