now the complaint that its cause of 2ksports is a joke. they don't market 2ksports the way they do GTA.

GTA comes out every once in a while and they have massive marketing for it, and tons of commercials and ads.

Why not put that into titles that come out every year, such as their sports titles. I'm sure the profits would roll in.

Also like another person posted, they had about 5 other titles that just bummed out. And you forgot to mention Top Spin 2.

Thing is, they need something to blame and since the sports titles are selling every other month or so. They are pointing fingers. Instead of blaming the sports section of Take-Two. Blame the marketing team.

Because it takes marketing and other advertisements to sell titles.

Where were the Top Spin commercials, the table tennis commercials, Prey? and so on. People aren't going to buy what they don't know.

But they've had massive losses for almost 2 years now. Time to get a new marketing team and put the company back on the map of most wanted games.

Even the crapiest games can sale with great marketing. ie.NBA Live 07

(I mean come on, Live had a commercial with two guys replaying the game, showing the shoes, while dunking on the opponent. So millions)
No offense but I'm so sick of this excuse. The games arent selling because they arent good not because 2k doesnt market them. I still see NBA 2k7 commercials and this is almost 6 mos after release. I just saw a MLB 2k7 commercial and have been seeing them all week. 2k markets its flagship games not games like Top Spin and Table Tennis. Why would 2k spend thousansds of dollars to market a game that will only attract a niche audiance.

The reason why TT lost money is two fold. 1.) They chose to focus on next gen consoles and really didnt add anything to the games they released on current gen and 2.) They released a lot of crap games this year. Here are the crap games: Family Guy, Prey, 24, The Da Vinci Code, MLB 2k6. 4 of those 5, TT had to were expensive to make because of the licenses and hardly sold. The only great games released by 2k this past year was NBA and Oblivion

EA made money this year because they market, have name recognition AND they still focused on current gen where the majority of gamers still buy there games. With that said, 2k has a new gta coming thsi year that will sell like crazy so i think they will still post a profit.

Secondly the 2k series is just as popular, like Jmood said, they've never had a company actually market them right, yet they make a superior product every year. But people do know they are great.

2k5 didn't belong to take-two, it belonged to Sega!!! Has nothing to do with them.

And GTA is 30% because they market it well.

Where do you get this 30% from? GTA sells because its GTA. Same with Halo. Same with Metal Gear. Same with Mario. At this point marketing has little to do with the sales of those titles.

LOL...not really. :-)You believe that 2k's problem is they dont market enough. My point is that they do market enough for their big releases and that even if they did market it more the titles would still sell the same.

If the popularity is measured in sales, then no, they are not as popular. They have definitely made great strides with the basketball and hockey titles (and baseball since they have no competition on one of the consoles). They may even surpass EA in those games soon (and they should, as the games are better IMO). It takes a while to break people's habits though, and this has been a long term conversion of gamers. Unfortunately these sports titles don't sell nearly as many copies as a football game does.

2k5 was definitely the first year of Take Two as well. They hadn't bought VC yet (they were still property of Sega at that point) but Take Two was the co-publisher. Here's the press release from when they signed the agreement: LINK Here's a copy of the official press release when the game went gold: LINK

Maybe it depends on where you live. I've only seen an nba 2k7 commercial a couple times and I haven't seen anything about mlb 2k7.

Its not that. Watch NBA TV or the NBA games on ESPN or TNT and you will see a NBA 2k7 commercial. I saw one last saturday on NBATV. I just saw an MLB2k7 commercial on Espn an hour ago during a spring training game. Its smart marketing. People who watch the baseball or basketball are more likely to buy baseball or basketball games.

Good post. Outside of NBA2K7 their sports games have taken a spanking to their competitors. It's almost as if they put in as little money as needed to crank out these games year after year. I know their NHL series really needs to start from scratch and bring something new to the table this year.

I wonder if any of this will propel Microsoft to buy them out. Imagine GTA being a 360 exclusive? Or all of their sports titles? That would surely put a dent in Sony's earnings.

Those are cable channels, the common household doesn't have cable. EA commercials are eating up standard channels.Thats what people see.

Yeah its on my case too..lol....my bad you were right about that. When I said they were popular, I didn't mean as popular as EA, but they have lasted longer than any other sports titles...and this is why they are still in the competition.

60 percent of TV households in America have cable TV. Also, I think its very likely that if you cant afford cable or sattelite, you probably dont have a next gen or current gen console. Even if you do, you probably arent a regualr viseo game buyer so 2k isnt targeting them as potential buyers.

Also, I havent seen a ton of EA commercials on network TV either. Why? Because network TV are way more expensive than cable tv.
