Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

That is the name of the new Ratchet & Clank game for the PS3. EGM Editor Brian Intihar talks a little about the game in his blog on 1up.

Ratchet PS3: Everything else you wanna know

But for a more in-depth look at the game, check out the April issue of EGM, which you can download for free here

    Previews: Ratchet & Clank Future
Exclusive first look, screens and video of Ratchet on PS3!

If the MotorStorm team made a Pixar movie, this is what it would look like. Take the glossy landscapes and mud from Evolution's game, throw in colors other than brown and smooth almost-too-perfect looking characters from... well, any Pixar film... and you've got one of the prettiest next-gen games.

That game, of course, is Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, known to some as Ratchet & Clank 5 (or I-9 if you work at Insomniac), and the developer's first non-combat-focused entry in the series since 2004. For a team that ships a game a year, that's a decent-sized break from Ratchet's roots, which explains the concept behind Tools of Destruction.

Video isn't up yet. They may be saving that for the 1up Show later today.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction

I loved the 'Ratchet & Clank' series on PS2, so I will have no doubts when I pick this one up on release. Insomniac and Naughty Dog are some of the most talented Sony developers (or developers in general) out there.

Hell, I remember the first 'Jak and Daxter', with no load times, a year after the PS2 came out, and six plus years later that feat is still rare!

Doesn't look all that different from the PS2 game (which looked good in it's own right). Outside of the wider draw distance/more characters on screen, I don't get what's jaw-dropping about it. Looks good in HD of course

Looks nice. Ratchet and Clank is one the most underrated series present in the industry. It's always consistently fun and offers balanced gameplay with a slick presentation. If I get a PS3, I'll get this for sure.

I'm picky with stereotypical games (e.g. sci-fi or WWII FPS, cartoony platformers, 3D fighting games), so unless this game really stands out, I'll probably pass.

It's a shame, too, since the PS2 had three elite platformer series (Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, and Sly Cooper).

Why would you pass if you enjoyed the R&C series on PS2? The graphical upgrade plus the new weapons alone is a major selling point.

EDIT: I just hope it's 1080p and not crappy 720p (unless the PS3 gets a firmware upgrade to scale PS3 games...which isn't likely).

Just not in a platformer mode, right now. I'll probably rent it, though.
