    NiGHTS 2 Flies to Wii?

A sequel to the sublime Saturn classic NiGHTS may be more than just an idle fancy at this point. Swedish gaming magazine Game Reactor has posted a telling image of next month's cover on its website. The image in question originally featured the mystical jester NiGHTS himself over text that read "SEGA's Dream-devil returns."

Since the original publish, Game Reactor altered the image to be a silhouette of the character, rather than an outright picture of him, presumably at the request of SEGA who has yet to announce the game outright.

Though no platform was specified by the Game Reactor cover, a NiGHTS sequel appeared recently on a Japanese Wii release list. It's possible SEGA's new NiGHTS will be multi-platform.

NiGHTS remains one of the most beloved SEGA franchises, despite its relative obscurity. A sequel for the Wii would be almost too cool for hardcore SEGA fans to ignore.

    ------------------------------

If this game does release on the Wii, I will be in heaven. I have been waiting for a Nights sequel which feels like forever.

NiGHTS is one of the most overrated games of all time. It's one of those games that everyone acknowledges as a great game, despite nobody really playing it. It's a good game. 8/10 good. It was ridiculously short and really didn't offer all that much. If it was released today, it would be panned hard.

I don't see how they can really make a sequel that will be that good, as there's really nothing to actually improve on or change. Anyone who played it will know what I mean. They can change up the environments a bit, but even that won't do much. It'd be better off as an XLA or virtual console game, but we'll see what they can do.

Hopefully they'll think of something. But I have a feeling a lot of people who have been demanding a new NiGHTS game without having played the first are going to be very disappointed.

          WHOA

I was just browsing IGN and I saw this. The Saturn games were just fantastic- man, I can still hear that great soundtrack. If I had the time, I'd pick up a Wii just for this! Why'd my brother have to get a PS3?

ARRGH- I really loved this game. Maybe being 12 years old when the game came out functions in that

In retrospect, I think the designers of that game were on acid when they made that game.

If someone has not played or even has a clue of the original, why would they be demanding a sequel?

I think its the other way around, the fans are the ones that want the sequel.

Because they heard it's good? I always see people requesting a new NiGHTS game on forums and such, but there were like, no Saturns sold, so I doubt many played it. I just see it on these "best game ever" lists, and tend to question it a bit. Personally, I'd rather see a Shining Force 4, or a sequel to the best Saturn game, Panzer Dragoon Saga. Now that game was what was happening.

I would take a new Nights and Panzer Dragoon Saga game in a heartbeat. The final SEGA Saturn games were such gems like Shining Force III, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Vampire Savior Collection, and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter.

No doubt. The last few Saturn games were great fun.

but this is sega we're talking about. If they can't even get sonic right anymore, who thinks they can get an obscure franchise right for the hardcore sega fans who actually liked it?

They even ruined Outrun with their later attempts at a revival.

Dragon Force was a sick game- I'd love that game to get some next-gen treatment.

I'm starting to notice a trend with SEGA, if they release something multi-platform, the game suffers. If they release something exclusive to a console, the game is good.

I agree, I played it years ago and it seemed like it just consisted of flying through rings. I don't know, maybe I wasn't paying attention but it didn't seem that great.

Sonic stinks because they've never been able to convert a 2D game into a great 3D game. Games like NiGHTS and Panzer Dragoon have an advantage because they were developed as 3D games and found success that way.

NiGHTS was a good game because at the time, there really wasn't any other game that made you feel like you were flying (outside of flight simulators based around jets and airplanes) and flying is something that has always been a fantasy of man. The environments were restrictive, but didn't feel that way at the time. A new one could certainly be an entertaining game and the Wii seems like the best choice of consoles. It could also suck too, Sega is basically a crapshoot these days.

Disagree 100% with outrun. Outrun 2 and Outrun2006:Coast to coast were excellent games. The offered much of what the original offered with additional player modes, cars, music and spruced up graphics.

I have had every iteration of outrun that has come to a console or pc (including the dreaded master system version) and trust me when i tell you that i believe these two releases were leaps and bounds better than even the original; all that was missing was the arcade seat with rumble.
