One question though. This would be a game my son and I would play together, so if say, I play the drum and he plays guitar, could we play at different difficulty levels or am I stuck playing on easy with him?
Yes, you can play on different difficulty levels with your kid.

        Ahh, good deal. Thanks Misfit.

As someone else stated earlier, this may be a Christmas gift for the family.

Yes you guys are right about the mic. It makes perfect sense...since there are no controller buttons whatsoever on the mic it relies on an original controller to maneuver through the menus. Turning on a controller once the mic is plugged in definitely does the trick.

It's amazing how bad I can try to sound yet still score into the 97%-99% range on vocals. It seems to be the case with every karaoke-type game on the market. It's very difficult to "evaluate pitch."

I find myself playing the drums more than the other two peripherals, though. I am a 25+ year guitarist who never really tried to sit down at a drum kit seriously...except for occasionally goofing off during rehearsals or pre-shows. I don't know what it is...but the percussion is a blast on this game!

My 4-year-old son finds it easier to "last longer through a song" with the drums than with the guitar. My wife who IS NOT A GAMER and really didn't care much for GH....had a blast drumming away.

Does anyone know what the 5-way selector switch on the guitar is for? I haven't read anything about it.

I assume it's not for selecting pickup configurations.

First impressions, make sure you have the GH2 and 3 guitars, as the Rock Band one is absolutely terrible, I mean completely unresponsive and just a piece of crap.

No...no mic stand. Although that would be a cool add-on. Guitar + Vocals simulataneously would be very doable if you knew the lyrics, rhythm and melody of the vocal line well.

I tried this using one of my mic stands

For some reason I thought a mic stand might be included since the crew from 1up had one during their performance.

This is something I would probably buy so I could try to sing and play the guitar or drums at the same time.

Musiciansfriend.com has a mic stand with a boom attachment for under $20.00. I'm not sure if you can beat that unless you went to a second hand music store.
