Only the yellow wire is AV.
Red and White is sound.

Since you're wanting to use Fiber TOS-Link to go from the Xbox to the Reciever, you just want to use the yellow wire to go from the Xbox to the VCR.

As the above post points out you can use it.

If you ever need to though, you could just buy a S-video to RCA adapter like this

Those adapters are cheap and easy to find. All Best Buys/Radio Shacks, etc should have them.

I just had to find myself a standard yellow RCA cable, and only use that along with the Dig. optical cable, as one of you stated.



Now all I need is a new TV compatible with "s-video". IS component video better?

Compoent is better because it allows for Hi-def signals to be passed.
S-video doesn't have the bandwith required.

So for 480p, 720p and 1080i, you have to have component or the brand new, Hi-def digital link which is like a computers SVGA interface.

If you're not viewing at least 480p, then the difference between S-video and component is not much, allmost impossible to tell apart. They both have more then enough bandwidth for 480i and the shielding in s-video and component cables of the same quality is basically the same.
In this case (480i), component is still better, but not enough to really matter.

You can always buy this game surround system. I bought it when I moved my XBOX to my basement. The sound is pretty amazing and its very affordable. I have an AIWA surround sound system upstairs and to get the Dolby Digital I bought the A/V pack by Monster Cables.

I can buy 4 of those to get the sound output I have now.

Though the cost at 80 dollars is pretty good, the subwoofer is only 10 watts.

I need more power than that.
