So I've decided to start playing Oblivion....

I've had it forever, played about 4 hours of it...never touched it again.

I decided to go back to playing it with all the new expansions that have come out for it and was wondering...

    1. How long did it take most of you to complete the game?

    2. Should I just scrap the game I had before and start over fresh because quite frankly I can't even remember what my quest was and what the goal of the game was?

I never beat it. I kind of lost interest in that game while my 360 was away getting fixed the 2nd time. While it was gone, I sent Oblivion back to GameFly and got Hitman instead. So I couldn't tell you.

Well, to tell you the truth, I play the PC version, and with the modding community it sets the Xbox & PC versions worlds apart. I'd say, if your are interested in playing Oblivion, get the pc version when you are able to.

Not sure, but I think it was over 100 hours because I did all the side and faction quests first, along with some general exploring.

Totally up to you. There are so many quests in this game it's easy to get sidetracked. All you have to do is remember in the beginning you are looking for the dead emperor's son, so look for quests in your log that relate to that if you just wanna hit the main story.

As for the get it for the PC thing, well, if you have a nice machine and the inclination, go ahead. But I don't think the community mods will have any influence on how good you think the game is, since it's great by itself, without the mods. Besides, that type of stuff is mainly used by those hardcore rpg/pc players, and you seem more like a casual player of the game. You already have it, so just play what you got.

I've logged over 200 hours on the game. I think the original main story arc took around 15 to 18 hours to complete tromping straight through it, but then I completed all of the Thieve's Guild, Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, Dark Brotherhood, and Arena factional quests. Then I downloaded all of the expansions, played through and beat the latest Shivering Isles expansion. Basically, it can take as little as 15 hours or more time than you really want to count...but if it didn't grab you in the beginning, it may not grab you at all. You either have fun with what it does, or you never will. It doesn't change a whole lot from beginning to end, and that's one of the only complaints I had about it.

It didn't grab me in the beginning, but now it's one of my favorite games. When I frst got it, like you I played for only a little while before going to something else. When I came back, I was glad I didn't get rid of it.

It took me about 40 hours to do mostly the main quest and some side things. I really like the storyline though so I concentrated on that with the intention of doing the side stuff that I never really got around to doing.

I originally played it to death then stopped for awhile. I now play it now and then and I still enjoy it alot. Have yet to beat the main story but have countless hours in it. I also used to get mostly PC stuff and ALMOST started to again a few months back. Didn't take long to remember why I left PC gaming for the most part right around the end on PS1 era. Driver this , driver that, random crashes ,time to upgrade etc etc..
I used to be stricktly PC and was a big supporter for PC over consoles. It's probably just my age but I just get to annoyed to quickly anymore to be mainly PC. It will probably be console for the rest of my life now.
If you have the patience though and $ ,of course go PC.

Took me about 130 hours for all the guilds + main quest + most side quests (still some scattered ones I never found/did). I usually take my time though. I'm over 200 hours now with the expansions but i've pretty much finished everything worth doing. There are still a bunch of dungeons in Cyrodil I haven't explored but they are all alike mostly so I just avoid them. (The Shivering Isles dungeons were all great though, most of them were unique if not all)

I love this game. I got in July and when I have time I like to play it quite a bit. For me the way to go is to play most of the game out before going to Jaufree and starting that whole oblivion gate stuff. I hate those. I love just going exploring and finding stuff, it is amazing how much stuff is off the beaten path in that game. I think just doing your own thing and side questing is much better than the main quest, but then again I have already beaten the main quest so there isn't much for me to be surprised in anymore.

Ive played about 50 hours and have around 200 achievement points to show for it. This game is endless, I cant imagine you getting rid of it early.

I remember I kept screwing around at the beginning and killing people and stealing items. So I got tired of going to prison
