Re: Fallout 3
Oh man, I am starting to become quite the bad*ss. Here's my current setup:
Spoiler
Biggest find for me was the after I learned how to wear power armor, I found a full suit of T-51b power armor, which has a rediculous damage resistance of 50. It takes an awful lot to kill me now. Top that off with a sick assortment of weapons including the Railway Rifle, Powerfist, Fat man (only used it once on a behemoth), Minigun, Hunting Rifle (my favorite), Scoped .44 Magnum, 10mm "Ultra" SMG, and a sick sniper rifle called the "Reservist's Rifle", and i'm starting to really whoop a**. I had no trouble walking alone through the heart of DC and dropping a group of super mutants, mainly thanks to the armor.
If anyone wants to know how to get said armor, just ask and i'll gladly point ya in the right direction.

Re: Fallout 3
Thanks guys for all the great impressions. I am going to pick this up this week. Like many of you guys said there are alot of great games out. I didn't want to pick this game up until i finished the main quest in Fable 2 first, plus i still have to finish off SR 2 and Dead Space so many games so little time. I have been playing video games for a very long time, and i got to tell you i never seen this many good games come out in this short of time between games.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
its months like his when gamefly seems like the greatest investment ever made.
No spoilers posted below, the names you see mean nothing until you actually do the quests which are not explained.
I'm liking fallout 3. It is addicting, but in my opinion it is oblivion with guns despite what people may say. With that being said I think the way Bethesda makes the world scale to you (in terms of levels) works much better when guns are involved. It still has some of Oblivions same problems though. Such as similar looking character models and many characters come off lifeless when in movement. The main quest gets you into the action in a much better way than Oblivion, but so far something is lacking. Its just not an engaging story so far. This an issue I had with Oblivion also. I found the stories behind some of the side quests much more interesting than the "save the world" main quest. Its the same case with Fallout 3, but I think they missed out on an oppurtunity to further explain and get you involved more in some of the interesting things that are not a part of the main quest. Vault 112 is a great example, they kind of left me hanging there and I really wanted to learn more about Mr. Burke in hopes that it would turn into something similar to the Assasins Guild in Oblivion which was my favorite quest in that game. So far it doesnt seem like thats gonna happen. I cant wait until people start putting up walkthroughs, so i can see if there is a way to dive deeper into something not related to the main quest.
Im gonna give it a chance because I dont think im to far into the main quest, so I still have a ways to go I think. So far im glad i used gamefly and not $60.
Bioshock is a much better game despite lacking many of RPG game mechannics that Oblivion has I think. It instantly sucked me into the setting they put in place and made me want to find out more about it. The combat was more rewarding too.Last edited by Juice Malone; 11-02-2008, 01:53 AM.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
SpoilerNot a big deal but this kind of made me feel eh about the game. The guy trying to convince me to rig the bomb and blow up the town kills the sheriff in the bar. Everyone just goes about their business and when I speak to them, they make no mention of what just happened as the sheriff is lying on the floor two feet away in a puddle of blood. Now I didn't except people to run in chaos but some conversation or reaction would have been nice.
As I said, no big deal. Also playing this game alone in the dark while traveling at night in the game becomes a little creepy.Comment

And I agree, alone in the dark at night this game can be quite creepy, especially with those Usain Bolt like speedy gouls leaping all over me. Excellent stuff.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
I also found that a little odd, would like more current events talked about especially with the influence your character has in day to day activity.

SpoilerI have been waiting for the Armory to open...and it never does...I'm guessing that Lucas ran it.... DOUBLE SPOILER>>>>>>>>DOUBLE SPOILER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> So I pick the lock and step inside. There is Duputy nuts and bolts(forget his name) waiting there and he starts zapping me right away. I run back outside and EVERY SINGLE TOWNSPERSON starts chasing me and waste. Shooting the Sheriff...ho hum.....breaking into the armory....KILL HIM
Still a great game the further you get into it.
I gotta disagree Juice on a couple of points.
You don't start off this game with a "one out to save the world" quest or mentality.
You are simply looking for your father. It's almost as if you are STARTING with a side quest and you will eventually stumble upon a greater quest.
....and I don't see the baddies leveling up with me at all. I'm level 4 now and can easily dispatch the feral ghouls with ease, where as just one or two took me quite a few rounds of combat to do so early in the game.

Re: Fallout 3
Finally got this last night and played for about a hour(I'm old and I need my rest)
I haven't left the vault yet, but the early part of the game is giving off a Bioshock vibe, but without that immediate sense of dread and isolation.
I can see already that this is a game in which the hundreds of small moments and not 10 big moments is going to be what makes game really fun. Kind the opposite of Mass Effect which was great with the large story elements, but not as strong with the side quests, and exploration aspects of the game.
As a RPG geek, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't play Fallout 1 or 2, but the good thing is that I'm not married to any of the gameplay elements from those games. I can enjoy this game for what it is.
Other Western RPG's/games have got to steal the concept of creating your family's appearance based on the template of your character creation. Its something small, but adds a lot to the game.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
Man I'm at about 20 hours and all I've done is explored most of zone 8, some of 9. I haven't even met 3 dog yet.
Last night I finished up Marigold Station, visited Fairfax Ruins, Amdale. I'm now currently doing that quest for Jenny. Ran in to my first Super Mutants. They are freaking bad ***....but the robots? They are WAY tougher. What's the best way to kill these guys?
How do you use bottlecap mines? Everytime I drop one they explode immediately. Are they only used for traps? If so can you make traps or just use the mines to rearm existing traps?
I'm so obsessed with this game its not even funny. It's gonna take me 100+ to finish cuz I'm doing so much free form questing.PSN: JISTIC_OS

Bad guys do level up according to you, but not weak ones. Your typical mole rats and feral ghouls will stay the same, but Mutants and other more difficult bad guys will level up as you get stronger like Oblivion. Its not as obvious as Oblivion though because the majority of combat is ranged and your characters weapons and equipment get upgraded pretty quickly (you'll go from BB guns to machine guns in a few hours) when you are starting off. The perks system also gives you alot of advantages if used correctly.Comment

Re: Fallout 3
The save the world main quest was in reference to Oblivion not Fallout 3. I said Oblivion's side quests were more interesting than it's "save the world" main quest in my opinion.

Way to go out on a limb and play the game there guy. Why did you even buy it if you were going to go home and debate whether to even open it?Comment
