The game got good reviews. I'll probably get it when it hits $19.99

Ditto. Most reviews say mindless fun on an impressive scale.

It is a fun game with definite Japanese 'B' flick characteristics. It's so corny, but a bunch of fun to play. Like a nicer looking arcade game that we would play in the past, where you have unlimited ammo, ginormous enemies that never end and total lack of a story.

I really, really enjoy this one. I picked it up as an impulse buy and I couldn't be happier. Yes, it has a bunch of techinical defects...clipping, poor animations, etc., but the sense of scale is great and I'm finding it a blast to be caught up in Starship Troopers/War of the Worlds type battles.

The game can generate several 'Holy Crap!' type reactions when you're overrun by a swarm of bugs, or robot gunships blot out the horizon, or you see the giant barrels of a bipedal walker emerge from out of a giant-sun-like fireball explosion that fills up your screen.

It's very arcadey in that as you are running around blasting you are picking up power-ups like armor upgrades and weapons unlocks and such, and you need them for higher difficulty levels.

There are a *lot* of missions in the game, and sometimes they put a bunch of 'same-y' feeling ones back to back, but then the game launched into something new. Play until the bipedal walkers storm the beach...you'll know by then if it is for you.
