    Fighting Game For The PS2

The last few years I have pretty much been playing nothing but sports games and was thinking of getting a fighting game for a change of pace. What would you consider to be the best, must have game that has been released for the PS2 in the last couple of years. One of my biggest complaints about fighting games is there replay value. So what fighting game has a lot of replay value?

    Thanks.

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is one of the deepest, best fighting games for the PS2, maybe ever. Very deep and very fun...and cheap since it's rather old. 6.99$ USD (used) at gamestop.com.

edit: graphics are ok..i don't think 16X9 or 480p is supported.
edit 2: ..this is coming from a 99% sports gamer (made exeptions for VF4:Evo, GTA:SA, GOW I, II, Burnout series...etc)

Well, there are countless Street Fighter/Capcom/SNK collections on the PS2. My personal recommendation is Guilty Gear X2 (not Guilty Gear Isuka) for some over the top 2D fighting action. If you're looking 3D than I suggest Tekken 5 or Soul Calibur III.

If you want a good 2d fighting game, some recommendations are:
Street Fighter Anniversary Collection (Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is one of the best 2d fighting games, period.)
Guilty Gear XX (easy to pick up and play, hard to master; this one's kinda hard to find)
For 3d games, I'd recommend Tekken 5, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, or Soul Calibur 3.

I find Fight Night Round 2 to be a lot of fun. Punching, blocking, parrying, ducking...it's pretty deep. I think the game can still qualify as a fighting game, right?

            I second VF4E for a 3D fighter.Maybe best period.
3D fighter with best graphics would be Tekken 5 which supports progressive scan.
Soul Calibur 3 a good choice for weapons based fighting.

Well, I have a few suggestions too:

DOA 2 Hardcore: released in 2000 (or maybe 2001), its the only DOA action on the system and it still looks and plays good...I like it b/c of the multi-tier fighting stages.

Guilty Gear: Try renting a few at blockbuster (or try a used copy). Between the different versions out, there's bound to be one of these you like if you're into 2D figters. Very colorful and fun.

FNR2: What the above poster said. It's the best FN available for PS2...best venues, fighters, etc.

King of Fighters 2006: A real 3D sleeper...deep and full of moves. This is truly the most underrated fighting game on the PS2. A "must try," as it has about 10 different venues (20 if you count night and day versions of each venue) and over 30 fighters. Tons of different fighting styles (some fighters brandish weapons). You MUST at least give it a rent.

                  I own FNR2, DOA 2 and KOF '06.
