It true that you don't need to have played BG1 to play, and greatly enjoy BG2, but I will say that there are many story elements that will resonate with you MUCH, MUCH more if you do play it.

I would liken it to seeing a movie like Terminator 2 or Aliens without having seen The Terminator or Alien. It will still be great, but some things will be lost on you.

It may be good that you can't find it. You may not have time to add another 40-60 hours or so to the 120+ hours(depending on how many side quests you do) you may put into BG2.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Hold on....Are you talking about the "Bonus disc" or the disc for Throne of Bhaal? The bonus disc may have extra merchants and stuff so you should install it immediately.

I remember when I bought BG2, I got the collector's edition which had bonus discs with extra merchants who had items you can't acquire otherwise.

Even if it's just Throne of Bhaal, there's no reason not to install it now. I don't think the expansion made any gameplay changes that affected the original campaign, but you never know.

Defel, it is an actual Bonus Disc. I guess I will go ahead and load it.

          Baldur's Gate...

I've never played it - but Oblivion sucks big time. You should play Morrowind if you want an Elder Scrolls game. Oblivion is a pile of crap.

To Graphik and the rest of the fellahs that responded, you guys were right, this game is in-freakin-sane! It took me a while to get the controls down, I went through the in game tutorial. I created a character that is a Ranger(Archer). I am have a hard time getting out of the first dungeon, but I will make eventually. The way this game plays is like a good old rpg. You have to strategically manage your team, and you have to pay attention. I was under the impression that Minsk was a warrior because he is big and can carry alot, I didn't pay attention to the fact that he was a Ranger(with that little hamster named Boo). I love how you have to manage the thief, sending her out to scout the room for traps, I found a picture with a safe in it (that was a nice little touch). I am still in the very beginning but when a game can make me lose track of time, then I know it is a good one. I played for like 4hours and did'nt even realize it. I have'nt done that in a long time.

Like someone suggested earlier, you should really go to those sites and peruse the mods. I wouldn't use any of the big mods on your first play-through, but there are some mods that unlock quests that were originally intended to be in the game or fix issues that were never patched.

Defel, I have never used or downloaded a mod in my life. I have heard of them but have never dealt with them. How do I download them, is it difficult to do?

go to that pocket plane group site i posted earlier, and do it before you get too far into the game (you'll want to restart). there are tons of great mods and the forums explain what each one does and how to install them. be prepared to spend some time on the sites though, for there are a ton of mods.

Re: Baldur's Gate 2 or Oblivion

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2 are two of my favorite PC games of all time!! Somewhere on disc, I still have my original character I beat BG1 with, then took and imported into BG2 and used to beat it, as well!

The other characters you hook up with are worth the price of the game, alone! Minsc has got to be a top 5 PC game character of all time!

Camaraderie, adventure, and steel on steel. The stuff of legend! Right Boo?
                        Butt-kicking! For goodness!
Jump on my sword while you can evil, I won't be as gentle!

I would stop after you've downloaded the ones above. It's important to not go overboard since this is your first playthrough. The quest/tweak packs are fine (unfinished business is a must), but I wouldn't use any mods that offer vast new continents for you to explore.

Sometimes the mods can conflict with each other and make finishing impossible especially if you install them out of order. Also, some mods just plain have bad writing/scripting and can really blemish the overall product since a first-time player won't be able to tell what's part of the game from what was modded in.

After you've beaten the game once or more, then you should go all out on the mods.

Defel, I went to the Unfinished Business Mod, and was wondering, do I have to start the game over to get this to work or do I just down load it and it will automatically incorporate into the game?
