Chat channels, Master league, and an extreme graphics setting seem to be the highlights.

In-game it seems like mostly a bugfix patch, but not having played in a while I wouldn't really be aware of how the balance changes would affect gameplay.
one of the changes I read about while the patch was installing is that void rays now do more damage against heavily armored targets.

Great vid of a coaching session for Protoss vs Zerg. The coach is an actual professional SC2 player from the US, he participated in the GSL's in South Korea, and everything.

http://day9tv.blip.tv/ and here's an archive for day9 who is one of the biggest commentators for SC2 at the moment. He does daily vids, analyzing games and you can learn a lot from him regardless of your rank.

I haven't played in so long, but I don't know about Void Rays getting a bonus against armored units. It's been a while though so maybe the balance has gone off.

The bonus only goes towards massive units, like Thors, Ultralisk, or Collosi, battlecruisers, and carriers, and motherships. Not sure if brood lords count as massive.

I started playing 1v1 tonight. After the ridiculous placement matches (I hate that they count those, but oh well) I did ok. I'm sitting at like 4-9 and in the top 10 of my bronze ladder. I did save the replays of those placement matches so I can see how those guys are building.

I wouldn't necessarily be concerned with what they build, more so how they act. What time do they attack and what is your reaction? Did you scout properly/enough? Did you secure enough expansions or did the other guy out expand you (in long games)? If you lost, what went wrong and what went right? Ditto for if you won.

Those placement matches were quick (15-20 minutes top). They were obviously higher level players as the guys I'm facing now are pretty evenly matched with me. People come up with some interesting strategies though.

Since you're only in bronze, you should focus on your macro much more than anything, if you remember to not get supply blocked, keep making workers, and making attacking units, you will do much better. If you need to, go look for a solid build order for your race and you should win a lot more of your games.

I'm in a slump right now, lost 5 games in a row iirc. I was close to getting 1900 pts, but now I'm back in the 1700 pts range in Diamond.

That's basically what I've been doing. Sportsdude offered a lot of great advice when I first started. I've also gone through youtube looking for build orders and google of course. Most of them seem to be the same until you start worrying about counters and what the enemy is building.

I've been running with Terran since I got the game - basically been going with a 3 barracks strategy and of course starport and factory for support.

If you have the time I suggest that you watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epMo2fLDU1Q (Audio might be out of sync)

He does it from a Protoss perspective but the things he talks about applies to every race, and I'm sure it could help everyone that is low diamond and lower.

I only won one placement match when I did it. The saddest one I lost seriously only took 3 minutes.

don't be too hard on yourself. It's going to take some time. I often find myself in a similar situation, losing so many times in a row then getting pissed and swearing I won't play again. I think the best thing in that scenario is to take a couple days off, recharge and get back in there. Sometimes you just have those days where it feels like you do everything right only to get crushed by your opponent.

Have you been doing just 1v1s? Do you any 2v2/3v3/4v4 games? I prefer team games over individual games, if you want a partner my name is StayClassy and my code is 907. I got a small but good group of friends that's usually on as well, so we can try anything from 2v2 to 4v4 if you want.

For league games, mostly 1v1s. I've gotten through the placement matches for 2v2s and we're actually like 5 and 3 or something like that, but that's mostly because my partner does a protoss rush while I'm walling in. Works in the lower bronze thus far, but he said we'll have to change once we hit like the top 10.

Done a couple 3v3s. One or two 4v4s. Most of the time when I play with friends its custom games.

I just had a 1v1 game that ended in stalemate (and apparently resets my win streak). The guy sent all his workers over and attacked me so I just uprooted my base (Terran) and ran around until the stalemate counter ticked down. Suffice to say I reported him.
