    Medieval II: Total War

We got any Medieval II players around here?

This is a gameplay video of the Brittania campaign that'll be in the Kingdoms expansion. It looks awesome.

    Yup...I've got it. Brilliant game.

I'm waiting for them to come out with an American Civil War and Napoleonic Total War Series.

There are mods out..but I want some official versions.

I destroyed the Saxons at Hastings just yesterday.

Great game. I need to fire it up again and conquor the world. Reading a book on Thermopylae (not the 300, a real historical account) right now, and its making me want to play even more!

A Civil War Total War game would be pretty damn cool!

A Civil War game sounds decent, but I'm not sure they would ever make it. It's such a world-wide focused game. I doubt the Euros would ever give in to letting the next Total War be about the American Civil War. They are all wanting either Napoleonic era or something focused on the Far East.

BTW, what book on Thermopylae are you reading? I am currently reading Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield and am LOVING IT. It is very realistic. I actually saw a thing on the history channel talking about some of the exact training tactics from this book.

Thermopylae: The Battle That Changed the World by Paul Cartledge. Its ok so far, but its not even really covering the battle yet, and I'm over halfway in. I'm thinking I should have gotten Ernle Bradford's Thermopylae: The Battle for the West instead, but oh well.

I'll have to look into Gates of Fire. Its a novel, right? I haven't seen 300, but I've heard from friends who are into history like me that they hated it, because it wasn't even close to what we know as the actual story of the battle, so I wanted to find a book about the actual history of the battle.

Yes, Gates of Fire is a novel. If you are looking for a book focused solely on the battle this probably wouldn't be the one either.

It is set on the idea that one guy lived out of the Spartans. Xerxes wanted to keep this guy alive and have him tell the story of the Spartans. It starts out following this boy's early childhood and then gets into him being in a military training school for boys. I'm 1/3 of the way through and this is what I have read. It talks a whole lot about the mindset of the Spartans, their way of life, and it uses a lot of Greek words. I love it so far, but if you are wanting a play-by-play of the battle then this probably isn't for you.

That does sound pretty cool. I might have to pick it up after I finish the one I'm on. I might also get the Battle for the West one, its got really good reviews.

I'm still enjoying rome total war and the expansion. I like the Roman period infinitely better than anything medieval. This carries over to the television shows as well.

I would have it if my computer was better, always been a massive fan of the Total War series since Shogun. Rome is really the best time period for me, but as soon as I can I'll pick Medieval 2 up. I think though Shogun really had the best feeling to it with it, I'd like to see them try something new before doing like a Rome Total War 2. I'm curious, does this game feel like its own game or is it Rome TW just 600 years after the fall of rome?

Its more like the original MTW with updated graphics and some other enhancements. Definately its own game from Rome Total War. I liked RTW, but I like the Medieval time period and the grander scope of MTW and MTW2 better.

So, yeah, thanks to this thread, I reinstalled MTW2 and have been playing again. Trying to conquer the world as the Scots! Damn Germans (Holy Roman Empire) and Danes attacking me from the second I set foot on the Continent, though.

More than any other game on any other system...

The Total War Series can cause a vortex in which you look at the clock and you've suddenly lost about 8-9 hours.

I can't tell you how many times at 11pm I've said, "I'll just play one more turn" and the next thing I know the clock reads 3:28 a.m.

While not as pretty as MII:TW, take a look at Take Command 2: Second Manassas if you are interested in a civil war game where you control the troops. It is very similar to Sid Meier's Gettysburg. http://www.madminutegames.com/
