Thanks for the reply. I'm going to start off slowly by killing everyone that crosses my path.

So I'm going down the road, and I see a horse. Sweet. So I jump on it. All of the sudden the night watch comes over and tries to arrest me (apparently it was his horse). I decline, and take off.

I finally get to Jauffrey's place, and give him the amulet. All of the sudden, the night watch comes out, says he's going to arrest me again. I decline, and he whips my a** to death.

Should I just go to jail? Keep on running? Or try and kill him?
well, I'd restart on a save just before I attempted to steal a horse, but otherwise I'd just go to jail...

Maybe look into the Thieves Guild, rumor has it that they have ways to remove the bounty on your head, once you're a member.

        A couple of questions:

        1. I've heard that the 3rd person view isn't as good as the 1st person. Why is that?
        2. Will things I do in this game affect how people talk or react to me several hours (or game days) down the road? For example, if I kill someone husband, will their wife remember me years later and act accordingling?

        Thanks!
        1. I don't know. For the most part I play in 3rd person view and it's fine to me.

        2. Yes, things you do will affect how people react to you. You have an ongoing counter of your Fame and Infamy. The more Fame you have over Infamy, the more people will like you. You will be considered an all around cool guy. If it's in reverse, people will see you as an ******* and more often than not, you will be in a constant fight with the watchmen as they try to haul you off to jail. You can get so bad, they don't even try to arrest you anymore, hey just try to kill you. If you were to kill some woman's husband, and she was around, the first thing she will do is call the watchmen. There are some people who ask you do something and if you don't, they won't have anything more to do with you.

The more you run, or if you kill him, the higher your infamy will go, turning you into an "evil" guy. If that's not something you want, I'd just stop resisting and do the time. You will lose some skill points you've gained and anything you've stolen will be removed from your person (you can get it back though if you find the evidence locker). It's better than being on the run constantly.

You can't just jum on any horse, you have to go to the stables and buy them. If you want one for free and don't mind getting blood on your hands, I suggest joining the Dark Brotherhood. In that quest line, you will get the strongest, fastest, and coolest looking horse in the game.

Definitely acquire Shadowmere. It's worth it, plus, the Dark Brotherhood quests are a blast to play, especially the "Clue" esque mission.

So yeah, i'm still playing this game nonstop after like 5 days. I just can't put it down when I turn it on. I used to play MLB2k7 everyday quite a bit, but i've played that like once since I got Oblivion. Worst part is, I just got Live as well and plan on downloading Shivering Isles, which will take up more of my life

Yeah I probably should of been more specific. I mean if you kill Mrs. X's husband, as far as I know, she won't just try and kill you everytime she sees you or something like that. But if you kill someone and others are around you will be reported and the more you kill the higher infamy and I killed a lot at first but everywhere I went guards came and it gets to a point where you can go nowhere and do nothing.

And if you kill someone that is in a future mission then you won't be able to finish it.

              This game was awesome. Yeah.

I don't have it anymore, but reading this thread brings back some cool memories. If games weren't so damn expensive I'd consider buying it again.

The only thing I didn't like - seriously, the only thing - was how your character's feet don't match up with the surroundings. Like you can run across the screen diagonally but your player's feet and body will still look like they're running 'up'. Pretty lame.

Can anyone tell me if the same thing happens on the PS3 version? If it doesn't ... I might just have to go pick this up.

                Re: Oblivion is still awesome!

I got in a few hours with this weekend and it's a mixed bag for me.
I'm not that familiar with RPG's so I was a bit disappointed with the lack of realism when combat is concerned.

I stumbled on to an inn at night with some unsuspecting, unarmed doofus sitting outside of it. He said 'hello' and I returned his friendly greeting with a swipe of my sword to his face. Not only did he not die, but he continued to block my sword swipes with his forearms. I must have hit him at least 7 or 8 times before he finally ran away looking for help.

Now I get how I'm only a level 1, but come on! I hit the dude with a FREAKING sword into his forearms and he isn't dead or at the very least maimed for life????

I think what really bothered me about this encounter was that just prior to this I happened upon two female cat-people, who were armed, and I killed both of them with only a handful of swipes from my sword. How is it that I can kill two people who would be considered fighters, yet I can't beat some tard, who's unarmed, but has seemingly steel for forearms?

That's why I could never get into these types of games and I'm fairly certain I'm not going to play this game much further.
I did love how open everything was and I can see why this game is popular for some, but I hate how unrealistic the battle is.

I know that you can't have it be 100% realistic so that if you take a knife to your arm, it should be hanging limp, but come on. The least you can do is make it realistic enough so that forearm blocks aren't as effective against sword attacks.

It might have been that the character was needed later on in a quest so he couldn't be hurt/killed at that time. I have never ran into that problem and have killed people just to do it to see what happens.

That could be true. But it wasn't just him either. I tried to hack up a bar wench and she did the same thing. Maybe she had a big part also?

I'll give it another shot tonight.

I'm not necessarily sure the game was meant to be played quite like that. Guards are way overpowered, etc. Try finding a guild (Thieves, Fighters, Assassins, Mage) and run some quests, or just run some quests by talking to people in cities. It's not like Fable where you can kill everyone, though that would be pretty cool. It's a limitation, no doubt, but it's still a great game. You can also find some ruins (a cave in the middle of nowhere, etc) and find randoms to kill legally there.

I had been looking at Walmart for this for the past couple weeks, and they must have just gotten a new shipment in because it was sitting on the shelf when I went in tonight.

                          PS3 version BTW.

I bought the game when it came out and still play regularly (maybe once a week for an hour or 2). It's actually tough to not play longer than that. The time really flies by when you're playing this game. There's just so much to do and the game looks beautiful.
