EB to stop trade in for another title??

I was at EB tonight exchanging NCAA CBB 2k3 for NBA 2k3, and the guy working there told me that he would let me trade in that game, but no more in the future. He said that he recieved a memo from EB HQ earlier today that said that they will no longer allow swapping of games in 10 day period anymore. They will only offer exchanges for the exact same product if the one purchased is defective.

I understand this policy, but I am sad to see it. Some games are never shipped to rental stores and you have to read reviews and go out on a limb and try them by buying them. If you don't like it, and don't have a way to sell over the net (like me) you are stuck with the game even though you may hate it. Certainly puts a new look on the baseball game buying season for me. I will have to hope that Blockbuster gets them all in. Last year I had a heck of a time finding WSB for XBox and HH for ps2 in video stores.

Has anyone else tried to return a game recently and heard the same or is this old news to you all? I know it isn't just me that they are blocking because i don't return games that often, only 3 that I can remember out of several purchases.

not sure - but I know they get a big part of their business from this consumer friendly policy. The guy might have been pulling your chain.. look at the back of your receipt maybe it says something about it.

This is not the first time I have herd this and found out it was false.

The reciept is the same reciept as always with the 14 day policy and the notes in red about exchanging for a product of equal value... he sounded serious and we don't know eachother, so I don't know why he would rib me??

Edit: By the way bdunn, the policy of returns is the only reason that I walk half a mile inside the mall (which I hate) to buy my games at EB. If this is true, I'll just buy at department stores and smaller chains.

i agree - and if it still mentions the return policy on the receipt, then he has to honor it.

                    Man... that really sucks!

I remember when you used to be able to take the game back and get cash for it if you didn't like it.

Then they changed it so that you could take it back for store credit.

Now you have to exchange for same game... ugh!

This is at EB for me as well.

I just talked to someone who works at EB and its new national policy starts today 2-15-03. If you open up a game you can't exchange it for another game.

                            That blows!

Looks like I'll be buying my video games somewhere else.
