Re: IS the PS2 coming out with a Hard Drive?
there has been one out for some time now - just no games support it and prob won't.
I don't know if one will come out where the game makers will support it.

Re: IS the PS2 coming out with a Hard Drive?
That is the one but it is not available here in the USA. Only in Japan and for import.
From IGN Rumor Mill (Last Week)
HDD in 2003 and Bundle Deal
Another interesting rumor we have heard and most rightly believe is that Sony is finally getting its butt in gear and figuring out its Hard Disc Drive (HDD) situation. Several third-party developers have test HDDs in their development labs and a few publishers plan to have games out this year to use it. SCEA is expected to sell it for around $49.99 or so, and we expect a bundle with the PS2. So, it goes like this: The PS2 drops to $149, and folks interested in buying the HDD can buy it, bundled with the PS2, for $199. Now all we have to figure out is whether SCEA will also bundle in the Network Adaptor for that same price. If it does, MAN! What a sweet deal. We'll know by E3 sure enough.
---
This HDD came out in Japan last year and is already being supported by a few games.
The big one that will support it is Final Fantasy XI (which will require the HDD). It will alow for streaming across the drive to speed up games (for example in the above game) and will also support Tivo like function.

Re: IS the PS2 coming out with a Hard Drive?
Geez, we've been hearing about a PS2 hard drive for the last couple of years it seems. What IS wrong with Sony in regards to getting this thing out in the US. They should have had this thing ready with 3rd party support lined up last year!Favorite Sports Teams

NBA - Charlotte Hornets
MLB - Cincinnati Reds

Re: IS the PS2 coming out with a Hard Drive?
I just don't see it taking off here in the US if it runs more then $49. Of course there are a ton of FF fans here in the US so it's success could be soley on how many will pay for this to play it. Personaly I think they should just pull a Nintendo and can the idea for the US like Nintendo did with the 64DD.

The HDD would be a good idea if, they provided some kind of XBox Live download system that you could save to the HDD. Like new levels, rosters, etc.Favorite Sports Teams
