inFAMOUS Hitting the Big Screen this Friday

So with only 8 days left until inFAMOUS hits the stores, I wanted to share with you some quick updates.

Sucker Punch have created a 4-part comic that chronicles the days following that fateful blast that changed Cole’s life forever. Part 1 of 4 is already out, check IGN HERE for the final parts when they’re released.

Now if any of you are planning to watch Terminator Salvation this weekend, be on the lookout for the inFAMOUS 30-sec commercial that will be running in theaters nationwide from May 22nd to May 28th.

Not long to wait now…but just a reminder that you can get your hands on inFAMOUS before it comes out by playing the official demo that goes live on the PSN this Thursday. Hope you enjoy it.

    That’s it for now!

I'm glad SONY is really pushing a new IP. You really need to promote the hell out of it if you want it too sell.

              Eurogamer Review - 7

With plenty of hours behind you at that point, you may even be encouraged to start again and explore the other face of the moral divide, or to return to the city in search of more of its secrets. Along with the many side missions, there are 32 'dead drops' to locate - audio recordings that fill in more of the back-story, which you can fish for with your mini-map and GPS - and hundreds of blast shards that boost your power bar. As a material benefit it falls some way short of Crackdown's agility orbs, but as with Assassin's Creed, there is always something tempting about a shiny object lurking at the other end of an interesting climb.

But then you may also have had enough. There is more charm to inFamous than Cole's face and voice suggest, but basking in the glow of the end credits, there are also a lot of painful memories to recall; of too many missions that funnel you into shooting galleries, of difficulty spikes and enemy-spamming, and of staring at the upgrades page rather glumly, aware that for the most part you're only being invited to make things strike harder or across a broader range. But most of all, there is the realisation that by the end of the game you feel like more than a man, and the power is arresting, and yet for much of Cole's quest, you have been running out of ammo, hiding, and firing back with a popgun. The flaw is that inFamous overcomes Cole's lack of invention, but, damningly for a story about an electrical superhero, it never quite overcomes his lack of power.
              1UP Review - A-

It's how InFamous blends all of this -- the platforming, the combat, the powers, the missions, and the Karma -- that makes it an eminently playable and enjoyable experience for me. It's why I've been staying up so late for the past few days. It's why I actually play the side missions (to wit, I usually don't do many side-missions in games -- whether they're open-world action games or RPGs. I'm usually content with focusing on the critical path). It's why I still load it up to look for collectibles like blast shards (which increase my energy meter) and dead drops (which dole out extra backstory). It's why after finishing the grandiose and awesome evil ending after about 20 hours of play, there's just enough replayability and difference for me to immediately start up a new game as good afterwards.
              Videogamer Review - 8

inFamous might not be the triple-A exclusive we wanted it to be, but it's still a fine game and well worth adding to your PS3 collection. Had the first half of the game matched the far more entertaining later sections (where the super powers really come into their own) and the story been a bit more engaging throughout we'd be looking at one of the best open-world action games of all time. As we said, being a super hero isn't as easy as it sounds, but if Sucker Punch gets another chance it may well be able to create one of the very best.
              Gameplayer Review - 8.5

+ Controls like an electric dream
              + Addictive leveling system
              + Fun, challenging combat
              - Unpolished graphics engine
              - Sandbox AI syndrome

              Gameplay-wise: "it's ELECTRIFYING!". Visually: "a touch disappointing".
              Gaming-age Review - A-

A shockingly great sandbox-style superhero adventure.

From TV shows to motion picture reboots to videogames, superheroes and comic book properties are super hot right now. With inFamous, Sucker Punch Productions, best known for their enjoyable Sly Cooper franchise on the PlayStation 2, has taken on a rather large scale project combining a reluctant superhero, a gritty comic book-worthy plot, and a sandbox-style open world environment. For their first PlayStation 3 title, they obviously had their work cut out for them, but fear not... inFamous is the real deal, and it stands out as one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences this year.
              Joystiq Review

Okay, right at the top, let's get this out of the way -- electricity control is a terrible superpower. Sure, it's flashy, and makes for a great video game mechanic, but any crime fighter who could easily be bested by Dry Rubber Shoes Man simply shouldn't be tasked with the vigilant protection of a city and its inhabitants.

Despite this obvious weakness, Sucker Punch's open-world action opus, inFamous, has a lot going for it. Rather than tumbling into the pitfalls often visited by sandbox action games (too repetitive, poorly balanced difficulty, no sense of direction, non-existent story), it takes the road less traveled, exhibiting an extraordinary amount of polish and attention to detail.

As a result, Sucker Punch has crafted a game that I feel comfortable labeling "the greatest superhero game I've ever played."

                    CVG Review - 8.5

It has its frustrations and we miss burning around in a car or the rumble of some good old-fashioned gunpowder, plus we think Crackdown pips it in the open-world action game league. But that won't stop you having a very amusing 25 hours of gaming (play it through twice, once good and once evil, and it's even longer).

                    Verdict
                    • Not as electrifying as we'd hoped, but still one of the best PS3 games of the year

                    Uppers
                    • Amazing open-world city
                    • Solid story-led action
                    • Cole's powers are very cool

                    Downers
                    • Occasionally laborious travel
                    • A few guns would have made it more fun
                    • Frustrating deaths (but good checkpoints)

                      Gamedaily Review - 9

Much of the fun comes from electrifying bad guys, experimenting with new attacks, climbing buildings with ease and making death-defying leaps. With three unique areas to explore and various enemies to squash, there's plenty to do. On the downside, we didn't care much for Cole's gruff demeanor and his over the top buddy, Zeke, nor do we like the occasional drop in performance when too much happens on screen. That said, the attractive graphic novel cut scenes, devastating electrical attacks, a moody soundtrack and a sprawling post apocalyptic metropolis make inFAMOUS a welcome addition to the PlayStation 3 library.
                      Kikizo Review - 8.5

With its karma-driven electric fisticuffs, open-ended parkour antics and stylishly broody ambience, InFamous is a game worthy of Sucker Punch's slick PS2 releases, and a great addition to the PS3's increasingly formidable exclusive line-up. Shame about the story, but there's plenty to do by the wayside.
