Pretty good guide to find the gold and silver skills from campaign/ co-op play.

You have to get these on at least normal for them to count. They are used for scoring multipliers in the campaign/ co-op mode challenges.

SKULL #12 FOUND. Cowbell - White Skull

It's on The Ark, and it's a bit of a bitch to get. You have to go through the level quite a ways. After you destroy the Scarab, head into the small building at the bottom of the sand area there. There's a Grav Lift you'll need for later. Take it, and head up the big ramp inside the building to continue the level. Progress through the level until you get to a corridor that is on a downward ramp and takes turns to the left. At the top of the ramp, count four green dots from the door, and place the grav lift on the fourth dot. Jump and use the grav lift to boost you up and to the left, you're trying to land on the little partitioned riser on the top left. The skull is inside there.

so, I went back to get the skull in the first mission and it's not there. Do I have to wait until I finish all the objectives?

You have to start from the beginning of each level as well.

Here are the silver skulls

Name: Blind
Effect: HUD and first-person arms are hidden
Sierra 117

Location Near the first enemy encounter stay to the right. Follow the wall on around past the small building until you reach the cliff edge. The skull is on a rock right just over the edge.

Name: Grunt Birthday Party
Effect: when killed with headshot, grunts explode like a pinata
Level: Crow's Nest
Location: After the first objective, in route to the barracks, you will fall down into a large pipe. There will be smaller pipes coming from the sides and Drones (insect-like enemies) flying out right and left. At the end, look over the edge to see a small corner a few feet below you. Your goal is to just drop over the edge and immediately pull back and land under the floor you were just standing on. Once there, the skull will be at the end.

Skull Effect: Unlocks hidden dialogue throughout Halo 3’s campaign.
Skull Location:
The IWHBYD Skull has been found! After countless hours from the Halo3Planet Community, we finally present you with the location of the final skull, the IWHBYD Skull!
The Skull is located in the level, “The Covenant”. After defeating the Scarabs, and going inside, get to the location with all 7 Ring Holograms. You must jump through the rings in a specific order. That order is as follows:

These rings also produce the notes:
E F# G F# A G F# E B C# D C# A C# B D E G A F# E G F# E F# D E
After jumping through them in this sequence, you will be awarded the “I Would Have Been Your Daddy Skull”. It will be right next to the bridge that brings you over to the Prophet of Truth.
NOTE: YOU MAY NEED TO KILL THE PROPHET OF TRUTH, AND THE FLOOD BEFORE DOING THE RING JUMPS!
