    Bungie Leaving Microsoft?

I wasn't going to post this, but since Team Xbox picked it up and posted the following...

Well, we can't provide further info now (we'd put our sources in trouble) but we're going to tell you that it is more complex than simply Bungie leaving Microsoft or Microsoft letting Bungie go.

There will be an official announcement this week, definitely before October 12th...
    http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/14693/...ing-Microsoft/

...it seems like this rumor is true in someway.

        Well this sucks...

So would they not update stuff over live for Halo 3 etc if they leave soon?

Yeah, Microsoft would own the rights to Halo. Team Xbox saying it's more complex could mean some of the team at Bungie is starting up a new studio, and they will either be completely independent or semi-independent.

Didn't that already happen with that Zombie game on Xbox?

Yeah, that was former members of Bungie that went off.

                  Stubbs the Zombie or something.

                      Re: Bungie Leaving Microsoft?

From what I have read, Microsoft is 'letting' Bungie leave.

In appreciation for the Halo series, Microsoft will let Bungie leave and become an independent developer, free to make any game for any system.

MS retains the rights to Halo, and Bungie will still be in the mix with any more content released for Halo 3, and Bungie will most likely still be involved with any other Halo game released on the 360.

But MS is just letting them become their own company.

                        That's fair.

Seems to me that Microsoft has become a smarter company in the video game business this go around.

*Smarter in terms of how they are treating the industry.

                          Re: Bungie Leaving Microsoft?

Our source stated that Bungie is “tired of Making Halo, and didn’t want to do future Halo games.” For an unstated, but significant amount of money, Bungie shareholders bought the studio name back from Microsoft. Our source also revealed that even though Microsoft will retain the rights to Halo, Microsoft also has “the right of first refusal on future games.” This means that Microsoft has the first shot at publishing Bungie’s future titles. How this will come into play if Bungie decides they want future game X to appear on the PlayStation 3 and Wii alongside an Xbox 360 release will make things quite interesting.

Why would they want to give up the license to print money? Use the money you make off halo and make other games as well.

This could end up like David Caruso leaving NYPD Blue
