This game is like a really good movie that I just don't want to turn off. I haven't even touched the street cases yet! I figure i'll complete the main story then go back on some cases and drive around until street cases pop up and play them all in one shot then...

So, i'm majorly impressed and love this game to bits. Rockstar is going to have to work with Team Bondi or ask another developer within their family to take a crack at games of this kind.

My only complaint tho it's not a real big one is that for a guy like me I wish they had a GPS for the driving! I understand why they don't but man it makes driving for me a pain in the butt!

This game has really exceeded my expectations and i'm going to limit myself a bit so I don't finish it in less then 2 weeks.
Great post SPTO. And I can't put my finger on it either, but I completely agree with your second spoiler tag info.

Not for sure if it will help as much as a GPS, but did you know you can ask your partner for directions while driving? Just hit X and he will tell you where to turn next.

Didn't think about it until just now, but I guess that would be the closest thing to a GPS in 1947, lol.

Love the game. Question on interrogating...I do a decent job, but can sometimes miss one or two that don't totally make sense

Putting in spoilers below, just in case, but center on the 1st (or 2nd, I forget) traffic case.

It is why I enjoyed Dragon Age over Oblivion. I know a lot of people who prefer Oblivion to Dragon Age. It is all about preference.

I dont really like playing pool, gettin drunk or the various other side stuff or fluff they usually add to R* games. I really like that I have the option. It makes the city feel alive when you have various places you can visit. Stores, bars, casinos, whatever.....When all of these elements are missing in a sandbox game, you start to miss em. Saints Row was the best at fleshing out a city with extras.

You and me both. I stopped when I got to Homicide. The cases have been awesome, love the randomness of them.

Hopefully the release the two missing desks down the line.

I understood what this game was supposed to before I bought it but while playing it, the lack of action bores me. I know it wasn't supposed to be a typical Rockstar game but it feels more like a GTA add-on than a full game.

As mud pointed out, I wish the gameplay was more varied and had some type of depth to it. For now it just feels like the game holds my hand and takes me on this journey more like a interactive movie than a video game. The city is huge but there doesn't seem to be any incentive to drive around it. The cars drive floaty plus there doesn't seem to be much difference in one car to another besides just cosmetic looks. There are much more cars to unlock but I didn't get that "oooh, I gotta have this car" feeling that you get with most sandbox games. Maybe its the time period but I dont feel like there is any reason to scout out any particular car as there isn't anything to do once you do get a car besides drive to point A.

I dont care what most say, the lack of being able to wreck havoc and use your firearm in public bores me. Not that thats all I want to do but in the other sandbox games, the charm comes from being able to do what you want to do with any gun or car you see which leads to some unpredictable and unscripted moments. In LA Noire, you get a feeling that everything that happens is scripted and totally kills the sandbox feel. When the case is over, you just hop to the next case with no inbetween driving, no lets play pool or fight club games, no jump off a building with a parachute mini games...nothing.

As far as the detective work goes. I dont like that the game holds your hand throughout it all and when you turn the chimes and clues off, it doesn't get any funner. It just means you'll spend a lil bit more extra time at a crime scene looking for clues without aid. Does it make you feel a little bit more like a detective? Sure. But since this is a video game, you can expect that everything has been placed for you to find instead of doing quality detective work ala Still Life or even CSI. To top it off, even if you dont find all the evidence, you can still question a suspect and have the game go through its motions to get the case solved anyway.

The action sequences for the cases are the only thing this game has going for it, nuff said. But on a sad note, 2 of the sides missions I played basically ended the same way. Reminded me heavily of Streets of L.A. Where there were basically only 3 or 4 types of side missions.

Anyways, my beefs with the game involves a lack of action. I halfway knew what I was getting into when I bought this game. I expected detective work, driving and few shooting opportunities. I got exactly what I expected but now I crave more. You cant make a sandbox style game with only 3 very linear types of gameplay. Its a waste of a huge and detailed city.

By the way, my lady loves the game. She says because she can play it. Meaning she doesn't have to aim and shoot alot, jump buildings, run from police while getting shot at, drive and follow a gps map all at the same time. LA Noire is a lazy walk in the park compared to the other sanbox games. There isn't much to do besides look.

Seriously, I would call LA Noire an adventure game more than anything else. And there are other adventure game out that give me a more immersive experience than this game. Immersion in the form of playing the game and getting sucked into the enviorment instead of watching and playing a interactive movie. The Sabotuer gave me more thrills and it was in the same time period.

I'm lucky I was able to buy a pre-owned copy from GS on day one. I will more than likely take this back before the 7 days is up.
first of all, it sounds like your still very early in the game because the first 4 cases are tutorials and yes they do baby-sit you through the process. maybe when u get past that u might like it better or maybe you wont.

secondly, like others have said this is not GTA. I dont know if its because it was made my Rockstar that u got the idea that it was, or that u saw that the map was pretty big or what. it is a adventure game! more along the lines of the CSI games but just with better and longer cut scenes.

have u tried turning all the hints off?

anyway, i agree with the car stuff. im not eager about finding all the different cars and for the most part, they do all feel the same.

and yes the facial animations and the story are enough for me. i loved Heavy Rain as well. if a game has a good story, im all for it.

i do respect ur opinion though. personally, I LOVE THIS GAME!

                different strokes lol

after a while i got tired of having to do all that extra **** in SR 2 just to play a mission. so much so, i just stop playing the game. it was cool for a minute but after a while i just wanted to play the main story without all the rubbish. to me SR 2 is just a GTA knockoff.

i love GTA by the way.

Man, that Heavy Rain game sounds interesting. To bad I dont own a PS3. I went throught the first 3 cases after becoming a detective and did a few side missions. I do hope the cases open up more, in fact, I'm expecting them to.

I haven't gave up on the game yet but I will get my full money back from GS if I beat it or not. Like others have said, its a different type of game with the GTA theme but its a send off knowing how large this city is and not being able to do anything in it. They could of threw in quick racing or something.....

I stopped comparing this game to GTA. As of now, its more like a open world adventure game which isn't bad by any means. If there are still people on the fence about this game, dont let me steer your mind. LA Noire is for gamers who are moreso into story immersion than anything. The repetitive nature of the gameplay needs to be pointed out though for those who want their cake and to eat it to.

I think that is what you are missing. This isn't a sandbox game. GTA and RDR cover that. This is an adventure game.
