              Bionic Commando Release Dated

GRIN's Bionic Commando will be swinging its way to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on May 19, publisher Capcom announced today.

This 3D update to the popular 8-bit 2D platformer--itself recently remade as the downloadable Bionic Commando Rearmed for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3--features swinging through vast open levels on your bionic arm's grappling hook and punching dudes with said bionic arm. Bionic Commando also brings mulitplayer to the series.

Bionic Commando tells the story of Nathan Spencer, a seasoned government operative betrayed and falsely imprisoned. But when terrorists detonate an "experimental device" over Ascension City, who do the government turn to save the day but poor old Nathan Spencer? Probably because of his gigantic metal grappling hook arm.

Bionic Commando will be released on PC "shortly after" the console versions, with Capcom promising further details in the upcoming months.

                        Bionic Commando 360 demo soon

Capcom has told us a Bionic Commando demo will arrive on Xbox Live in "the coming weeks".

A specific date, as well as one for PS3, is unknown, although we're trying to find out.

The Xbox 360 demo focuses on the multiplayer side of Bionic Commando and offers the Vertigo map for sample. Here, up to eight people swing around and try to kill each other.

Bionic Commando Demo Due April 29

The Bionic Commando demo that was teased for "the coming weeks" is coming a bit sooner than we thought. In fact, it'll be available on the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.

As previously reported, this demo is exclusive to the Xbox 360, with "no plans" for PlayStation 3 or PC versions. Deathmatch battles will take place on "Vertigo," which is one of Bionic Commando's sixteen multiplayer maps.

It'll be up to you to see what sorts of crazy things can be accomplished with the bionic arm (hint: quite a lot, actually). Should make for good practice ahead of the May 19 release in North America.
Would rather have a single player demo, but a multiplayer demo will at least give me a feel for how well the swing mechanic works.

                            Some reviews:

                            Eurogamer - 7

By the time I reached the end of that campaign, I was experiencing mixed emotions. GRIN has certainly taken the load off combat boots wearied by too many open worlds with great effect, but although you travel over rather than along them, they are still highways of debris passing beneath your feet, and all you are doing is pausing occasionally to dispatch the people you meet and consult the A-to-Z. The result, though stylish and engaging, is something rather more primitive than the more enjoyable battles - where the bionic swing and core combat work in closest collaboration - really deserve. Bionic Commando succeeds in resurrecting a good idea lost to the Capcom archives, and giving it a new lease of life, but it falls foul of a few old standards in the process.
                            IGN - 8.0

It's been an incredibly long time since Nathan Spencer swung onto a console, and for the most part, his return is a solid one. Bionic Commando provides an updated adventure for the classic hero, sending him as a one man army against daunting odds to save the world once again. If you can look past the replayability issues that crop up due to the linear play, you'll find an enjoyable adventure that easily re-establishes the franchise for Capcom. You've been out of duty for way too long, Spencer – Hopefully you'll come back sooner than later.
                            Giant Bomb - 4/5

Bionic Commando goes back and forth between moments of great, navigation-based gameplay and a lot of little touches that don't work as well as you'd like. It makes the final product a little frustrating, because you can almost see a better game trying to bust its way out of its constraints. But more often than not, I was really taken by the game's rewarding swinging controls and terrific looks. If you consider yourself something of a swinger, I think you'll probably feel the same way.

After the demo was multiplayer only I got the feeling to skip on this.
Then I saw the reviews and thought I'd give it a try anyway.
I was right the first time.

By the way,you need to have Rearmed to get everything in this game. There's the old school outfit wich apprenly unlocks by default, what sounds like a level and some weapons that you need to find stuff in Rearmed to get.

                                Re: Bionic Commando returns

Capcom's experiment in using an XBLA title to help spur sales for a retail game proved a failure. This according to the latest NPD sales data for May. Bionic Commando Rearmed, a high-profile Xbox Live Arcade remake of the original, sold more than 130,000 units across PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in its first week of release. By contrast, the full retail version of Bionic Commando (a sequel to the XBLA title) sold more than 100,000 units less than Rearmed in two weeks of release last month.

Bionic Commando Rearmed was meant as an introduction to the franchise for gamers unfamiliar with the series. It included special codes to unlock new costumes and weapons in the retail version of Bionic Commando. But Rearmed's success clearly didn't translate to the sequel.
it hasn't even sold 30k copies combined on the PC, 360, and ps3. Wow.
