why don't they actually show in game footage when selling games? I'd rather see what the actual games look like in action. It's always annoyed me.

The better the eye candy, the better chance publishers get of attractin casual consumers who don't know any better... and sometimes even though I know their fake, it attracts me... I remember the Bioshock commercial made me say "i have to have this"http://www.myspace.com/phillthegenesis

Exactly....most people go "oooooh, pretty" and buy a game...crazy, I know, but that's the general public for ya, they're stupid and uninformed.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: game commercials with pre-rendered graphics
Exactly. It's no different than standing in line at McDonalds, looking up at the menu above the counter. They know damn well the food will never look as good as it does on that display. It sure makes you hungry though. It's just marketing. Anything is fair game in marketing.Comment

Re: game commercials with pre-rendered graphics
Thanks for posting this. It's probably my biggest gripe with the gaming industry at large right now.
Like COD4, all the commercials were basically just movies of CGI soldiers storming through towns and stuff. Hey, that looks great, but will I be playing the game like that? No? Ok, then show me the freaking HUD like I'm actually playing the game.
Same with sports games, the way Madden and the NBA games market themselves with all these close-up views of the players so you can see the sweat dripping off their brows and stuff. It all looks nice, but I think exactly zero people in the world play the game with the zoom all the way in like that, so what the hell do we care how it looks like that.Helen: Everyone's special, Dash.

Re: game commercials with pre-rendered graphics
There should be a law like in England that bans using prerendered videos. Of course I would love to see McDonalds and other food companies forced to show their real depressed looking burgers but it isn't going to happen anytime so.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Comment

Like others have said, for the same reason fast food companies don't get in trouble for showing perfect looking burgers.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: game commercials with pre-rendered graphics
if i recall correctly there was a case about this a year back (i think) it was the call of duty: big red one commercial where it showed pre-rendered through the eyes of the player...like that of Killzone 2 pre-rendered debacle at E3...
somebody sued that they got tricked into buying the game when the commercial was completely different from the game...
cant find the commercial now but heres an article
Just show me how the damn thing plays! Are you frustrated with game commercials that display nothing but pre-rendered footage? If you live in the UK you may not have to suffer them much longer due to a recent adjudication from the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). The ASA is an independent…
edit: oops jmood already mentioned this...blehComment

Yeah in England things are different with commercials but I don't know if anyone has tried to sue game companies here.Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: game commercials with pre-rendered graphics
perfect looking burgers are different than pre-rendered graphics in commercials. McDonalds could make their big mac's look that way if they chose, and they hardly market their food by the way it looks anyways. Games often can't be made to look as they look pre-rendered in commercials, and the method is directly used to drive sales.Comment
