There is no place like Nebraska
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they're all true blue.
We'll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For Dear old Nebraska U!
Won't change this signature until Nebraska wins the National Championship...posted 8/16/05 -
Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
good one. That was one of the first games I ever played, as with many school kids. Planted the seed of videogame love in millions of kids. I still mourn for Andy and his peperony and chease tombstone.Comment

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
I always died of diphtheria, so I say no.
I do have a funny story about that game though. It was networked on all our computers at school my freshman year. I removed it, and added the original Leisure Suit Larry (text verison) instead.
I got in trouble for that one, but it was funny.

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
In eighth grade I was in a web page design class (as well as a journalism class) where we had this large room with those old but newish mac computers. You know...

Anywho, when my best friend and I were done with whatever assignment we had, we would go straight to Oregon Trail and simply do a race. Yes, we would just see who could get to the end the quickest. It was awesome. A bit of hunting along the way... killing all of our oxen, etc.
I tell ya, hunting sure was fun on that game.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
In terms of sports gaming, I've gotta go with NHL 93/94.
In university, me and my buddies were addicted to these games...Solid gameplay and the introduction of one-timers in 94' changed everything. I remember Roenick being insanely good in the 93 version too.Comment

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
1. Pong- I think the first guy said this, that it started it all.
2. Pokemon- Best franchise ever made in a video game. It has made like 15 handheld games, 4 console games, like 200 tv episodes, 15 movies I mean, I still play it from time to time it is just that good.
3. Legend of Zelda- First ever big milestone in gaming industry, got 10s everywhere
4. Grand Theft Auto- Rockstar Games is the most thorough gaming company in the world, and this franchise is it's crown jewel.
5. World of Warcraft/Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion- World of Warcraft was one of the first MMO games in the world, and it was a truly big accomplishment. Elder Scrolls was just great, most deep non-online game in the world.

Additionally, READER RABBIT!!!!! That game will always have a special place in my heart with Zombinis, The Cluefinders, and Carmen Sandiego. Those games where the reason I got a 35 on my ACT as a freshman and got accepted into the Illinois Math and Science Academy, even though I didn't go, sports matter more

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
I`m going to date myself and say Intellivision NFL Football, which came out in 1979, has to be in any top five. I think it was the first video game to use a sports license and I think it was the first home console representation of a team sport.Comment

Re: The Top 5 Most Important Video Games of all Time
I agree 1000%. Like you said, it changed the direction of gaming.3. Grand Theft Auto 3- Honestly this game was a total sleeper for most videogamers. No one really covered it, no real hype, and then the game dropped and people were like OH MY GOD THE TRIADS AND THE MAFIA ARE GOING AT IT, THE STREETZ ARE A WARZONE!!! The game just redefined everything.

Pong
Pac-Man
DOOM
Madden

Their attention to details is amazing. The writing for the radio/TV stations is pure genius. 'Republican Space Rangers', 'The History of Liberty City' and 'Princess Robot Bubblegum' - sick stuff!Comment
