Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
If your PC can handle it, then get it for the PC. With the patches, and the various mods, the already excellent longevity that the game has, is increased 100 fold.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever. -
Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
I still pop mine in(well, now that Crysis is out I haven't in about two weeks, but with all the downloads available I'll be back), but those guys are done.
Now that could be that I'm just a different kind of gamer, so if you really like to delve into games.....find new content(and not from the company that makes it, but user mods) you cannot beat the PC.
I'm actually shocked that most people prefer console games to PC games. But they sure are quick to cry at how short the game is.

Yep. I've got it for the PC. A bunch of my buddies got it for 360.

Also, Oblivion for 360 is the same length as PC, it got the same mods (shivering isles, etc) so not sure what you mean about "cry when it's too short". I know PC has a few games (WoW, others) that are great and basically never ending, but I guess to me the trade off is the expense at keeping a PC top of the line.Last edited by mgoblue; 12-02-2007, 02:51 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
I hate wondering how my PC is going to handle a game (if it'll look good or bad or not even run well). My current PC is 5 years old and runs just fine for everything else. I have no desire to spend 500+ bucks making it good enough to play games with quality graphics when i can get the same experience on a console and FOR SURE the game will work without hours of tracking down graphics drivers, etc.
Then there is the fact that consoles are much better suited towards the group experience for games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Wii titles.Comment

I say PC if your comp is good enought but 360 if your Comp is not. I love PC games, but affording the new parts that come every month for your PC is hard.PS4 Twitch: http://www.twitch.tv/candyman5os

Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
Bingo. A video card that runs games better than a 360 costs more than a 360, and that's not including whatever ram or other upgrades you have to buy. Then on top of that, the graphics card is no longer state of the art before the year is out. On consoles, developers all agree to one common chip set and the onus is on them to get the most out of it. The consistent standard results in consistent gaming experience among the community, and all console gamers have to worry about is which games they prefer, rather than having to keep tabs on performance issues.

Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
Depends also on what you really would like out of your experience. The achievements are a must for many. Now that they have the GOTY edition, I'm leaning toward the 360 myself. Refuse to pay extra for that content like that only for it to be reduced later and me feeling dumb for not waiting. PC is nice but you have to make sure your joint is solid enough to run the stuff at a pace that you're comfortable with.Comment

Granted....it was a top of the line Alienware when I purchased it, but I didn't read the poster asking about bang for the buck, so I just gave him a straight answer to "which do you think is better?" and my reasons why.
That leads me to what I mean about "cry, when it's too short". I didn't mean Oblivion in particular....what I meant was....people will mostly finish a console game...and that's pretty much it. There is no way for the users to mod it(so far....maybe in the future?) like they can and do for PC games.....I still play new "versions" of Nascar Racing on my PC.....there are many, many more user mods for Oblivion on the PC than there are for the 360 version.....Half Life.....Silent Hunter....you name it....if it's on the PC, someone is modding it and putting it out there for PC users.
I'm not knocking consoles. I've got 'em too...and love them....I'm just putting it out there for the original poster.

Neither - save your money. Or, if you want a game that's actually good, buy its predecessor: Morrowind.Comment

Well, my current PC is 4 years old and I haven't upgraded once since I got it...and I can still play any game out there.

I can remarkably still "play" a lot of games, i just know I don't get the graphics the designers intended...There's a lot of fun PC gaming out there, I'm just tired of dealing with PC issues (I've lost count of the times I've been told "have you found the latest graphics drivers?" on forums if I had issues...) It's just not for me anymore, but I'm glad there's still a lot of PC gaming going on.
I'm not going to buy an expensive alienware laptop just so I can game, it's just not worth it IMO. I'm a tech/computer guy, but I can't justify 3k or 4k just so I can game on a PC for 4 years. I don't have a PS3 yet either, because I can't rationalize it well enough (and I'm trying lol). I guess part of it is that any sort of online game I'd get for 360 over PC because the online aspects are much better (voice, live, etc) plus all the people on here I'd play. I don't think there's enough "PC Exclusive" to make me devote resources to it.
Plus my gaming attention span is different than yours. I couldn't do the roster stuff you do for MLB. I don't play a million seasons in one game. I wouldn't play new seasons of Nascar Racing (I had the game back in the day but got bored of it after a while). Silent Hunter was fun for months but I moved on. I'm not the type to play a single game for 4 years or something. I think the greatest draw for PC gaming just isn't applicable to me. The only type of games I'd play over a long period of time are MMORPG's, and those are usually fairly easy on the requirements (in order to reach a large crowd). I never had an issue with CoH or WoW.
Thanks for making me think about this, Knight...it was interesting going through what I like and look for, and just figuring it all out. Again, I'm not bashing PC gaming, just kinda throwing out my frustrations. Over my PC gaming years (since I was a kid) too many times I'd put a game in there and have some error I had to track down before I could start playing.Last edited by mgoblue; 12-02-2007, 07:50 PM.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Definitely, you can do more on the PC than consoles...

My hope is that one day we will have console gaming...with games going to the drive that can be user modded.
...and you make and excellent point..it really depends on what type of gamer you are.

Re: Oblivion for the PC or 360?
Oh yeah....I've definitely had my share of problems with pc gaming. The occasional time I couldn't get a game to run at all was very frustrating. BioShock was one until I changed some drivers or something.

Give it 5 years...PC gaming will never die, but hopefully console gaming can mature more.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment
