i have been trying to play my friend online the last 2 days and i haven't been able to connect with him at all. we can not even private chat to each other does anybody have any idea why ?

What game? Have you checked your NAT? If not, go to your dashboard, and scroll over to Network settings. Run a test and see if your NAT is open. If it's strict or moderate, that could be your problem. Your friend should do the same. -

I'm not sure how to improve the NAT issue. You could do a google search and look for some information. I had to do something similar about a year ago but I forget what I found or where I found it.
Another thing that could be happening is that you and your friend's routers are not compatible with each other. That can keep people from connecting to each other. You both can try taking your routers out of the equation and see if that helps when connecting directly via your modems.XBL Gamertag: hoos4974
