Old but still funny.
There's another one of those but it's about soccer and a team getting relegated. Funny stuff.Blind to this impending fate
We let the world carry our weight
It's back breaks with every mile
But we all live in denialComment

Off topic...but in a small way I'm glad Hitler was in charge. If Germany would have had a true tactical genius (ie a Rommel) running the war who knows how it would have turned out. Somebody who didn't have a grudge against the Russians could have easily wiped out Britain, then North Africa, then moved on to Russia instead of fighting a war on two fronts and invading Russia during the winter.- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

I heard that during the invasion they didn't wake him because he was grumpy.Comment

Yes he did go too far with invading Russia in 1941 but that was a no win proposition no matter what. Russia was just too big and harsh. The Nazis just didn't have the manpower to succeed and contain them and no strategy would of changed that, add to that the logistical nightmare of occupying Great Britain at the same time and it's impossible. The only reason they went after Russia initially was that Eastern Europe and France fell so quickly and easily and that gave Germany the delusion of invincibility which would have given any leader a false sense of security. No one expected France to fall apart so completely within a couple of weeks.Comment

If Germany would have taken Britain even without a huge occupying force it would have played hell on the US forward operation bases which launched Normandy. We would have had to either land on Britain with no air support or come up through Africa. Germany had over 2 million men involved in the Russian campaign, men that could have been used to invade Britain and shore up North Africa.
Hitler hated Stalin and that was it. He thought the British were beat and pulled resources away which could have easily secured Britain and North Africa. Russia would have gotten their act together eventually but to do what. Invade Germany? Against by then a veteran and superior army fighting on their homeland. I bet the US would have lost the African campaign...Romell was a genius that was shorthanded on troops. If that happens then where and how would we have attacked. Definitely makes you wonder at all the little things that make history.
For example the Civil War at Gettysburg. What if Buford hadn't decided to hold the line with his calvary division outside of Gettysburg, thereby not giving the Union time to move into town and form a defensive sort of perimeter around the high ground. Or what happens later if Chamberlain is killed early and nobody gives the bayonet command and the 20th Maine doesn't charge down Little Round top thus routing the Confederate troops? The Union loses Gettysburg, goes on to lose the war, and the United States is cut in half. Alternate history could go forever.- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

True...Hitler was a master at giving speeches and definitely brought Germany together. It was a perfect time for what he did and he pulled it off. From what I believe though there was no pressing need to attack Russia. A truce was signed with Stalin (even though they hated each other), but more importantly Stalin did not have the army to attack Germany. If Russia would have been the size of any of the other European countries it would have fallen fast...but with so much ground to cover plus the winter you are right, the Germans didn't have enough resources.
