Re: dolby surround systems
you can hook it up to a regular surround sound just like you would a dvd player. Are you wondering if you can hook the xbox up to the "dvd" jacks on the back of the surround sound receiver?? You can.My Fan Page http://theusualgamer.net/MyFanPage_Heelfan71.aspx

Re: dolby surround systems
I have mine hooked up to my surround system (Onkyo receiver, Polk speaker system). I have the optical jack plugged into the receiver and into the optical port on the AV pack. However, I also had to set that channel of my receiver to "digital" so it would know to look for a digital signal.
And it does sound great -- Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell have tremendous sound.Comment

Re: dolby surround systems
I don't have an optical plug. Only the xbox plug (red, yellow, white). Do I really need to get an optical plug? I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out, but I only tried once, and it didn't work the way I plugged it in, so the sound was just plain.Comment

Re: dolby surround systems
KDRE,
If you want to get Dolby Digital with the XBox, you need the optical plug. With the red and white plugs, you'll get Dolby Pro Logic, which isn't as good (there's no left/right separation in your rear surround speakers). The optical doesn't come with the Advanced A/V pack, but you can find one in any electronics store. I'd avoid the cheapest ones that are around $10 because they're not made very well.Comment
