    Guitar Wizard

I looked to see if this was posted anywhere, and didn't see it.

Looks interesting. To me, a bit intimidating cause you're dealing with a real guitar. I think the best thing is that you can get any song you like. Not to mention, it could actually help you learn a real guitar.

Seems like the launch date is set for August '09.

Sounds awesome. I hope this helps me learn more songs.

What I don't get is in the middle of the interview he said, "you can put any song into and it'll automatically download into the game." then at the end of the video it says, "you can download new songs for 99 cents."

      which is it?

Maybe once you put a song into the game, it costs 99 cents for a conversion download.

I really don't know. I hope it's the former, but only time will tell. I have a feeling this program (or can we call it a "game"?) is going to be a lot tougher than it will be fun at times. Now we're converting our strings into hearts and diamonds. I would prefer seeing the name of the string, with a difference in both of the E's. The only way I see that not working is if you have to play a song with a different tuning.

Which brings me to that next question. How is this done, now?

That was something I wondered as well.

But like Blzer said, it might cost $0.99 for a conversion of any song you'd like. That makes the most sense.

And I agree with what he said about it being frustrating instead of fun. I get pissed off playing GH on hard, I can't even imagine how I'd feel trying to master a guitar. Ugh.

I actually think playing it on a real guitar would be easier. Can't stand Guitar Hero, cuz it seems like a lot of the button sequences are just wrong. Songs that I've been playing for years on a real guitar just don't feel right on Guitar Hero. Now on a real guitar? That's what I'm talking about.

Yeah...I think the hearts, diamonds, and color crap won't really help someone learn guitar. They can maybe learn some stuff, but eventually you have to learn what a chord is, what notes are what, etc. I can only imagine chatting with a friend going "Dude, you totally nailed that pink heart...that sounded awesome" lol

I'm teaching myself guitar, just going slowly and learning some scales, a few chords, a simplified song to use them on. It's not easy, and I think something constantly saying "YOU FAIL" when I suck on the game would be pretty discouraging. I know I suck, but a video game would add too much pressure/challenge IMO.

Also, shouldn't they really be doing more chord stuff and less single notes? I know lead guitar has solos and stuff, but at some point they have to learn how to strum, different strumming patterns, etc. I can be awesome if I'm looking right at the strings, plucking one string, going slow, etc...it's strumming, changing chords fast enough, etc that's more challenging.

Yeah, and I have to be honest... I may be playing guitar the wrong way, but what I do is I normally learn to memorize a riff in my mind. Once I do that, I practice very slowly until I memorize the riff in my fingers... then I keep practicing until I get it right. Then I go onto the next riff. I don't look at tablature when I'm playing riffs. It's only when I play chords that I can look at a page and not have to focus on what I'm playing on the guitar. C, G, Am, F, blah blah... I don't have to look down or anything and try and memorize what's going on down there. Perhaps if I keep working, I can get the same feeling with tablature.

                  Re: Guitar Wizard

I play a lot of guitar, but I spend little to no time playing other people's songs, so this program should be a good way to get me to do more covers.

Exactly...I still am teaching my fingers the chords, and I need to speed up my transitions. I think this game would just frustrate me, by assigning a score to my failure lol. I know I'm sucking now, but I notice great improvement, just takes time.

It sounds cool and all but I get by just fine with Guitar Pro and Amplitube, so I probably won't check this out.

They'll probably release a free trial version online when this comes out. So hopefully you'll at least be able to try it.
