Just started playing. If the beginning is any indication, it should be a good one.Joshua:

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
I'm trying to like this, but I don't think I'm cut out for Japanese dramas anymore. I used to be able to accept the quirky sensibilities and repetitive combat, but even fantasy should have some common themes...Small example, the chick on the transport the main dude runs into at the beginning. Shes introduced as an officer right? Then how can a chump foot soldier tell her to shut up and sit down? And why does she comply and say "thats weird" like a spoiled teenage girl? I understand the concept of artistic license, but these characters aren't even remotely believable. Meh, it seems you have to swallow so much nonsense to enjoy the story...I mean that chick was sporting a uniform? Really?
Also, Mass Effect has spoiled me for realistic dialog...all these useless NPC's scattered around who only have one simple line to deliver is getting on my nerves. Imagine walking into a mall, approaching someone and having them turn and say "President Bush is very powerful...some say it is his fault we are at war!" and then turn away, lol. Maybe I need to be an an herbal state of mind...I really want to get into it, the story seems like it will get pretty interesting, but right now this is boring as all hell.

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
When trying to decide which ring you should use just follow the basic forumla:
Water beats Fire
Fire beats Wind
Wind beats Earth
Earth beats Water
So if you're targetting an enemy that has Water as it's element, equip your attackers with an Earth ring and so on (you can do this before you attack without losing a turn).
There can be a lot of micro-management during combat, but it's worth it because the extra damage adds up over time.

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
Man, I'm on the second disk (25 hours in) and those damn memories keep getting worse. And not in a bad way. They rip at an emotional center I have long forgotten playing video games. I haven't felt this involved in a game for a long time. I loved Mass Effect. But, LO makes me really feel sad for the characters. It's truly an interactive experience.
Edit: I want to go on record by saying, "I haven't cried though!"

When you use the phrase "rip at an emotional center I have long forgotten", we know you've cried already. The first step is admission :wink:Man, I'm on the second disk (25 hours in) and those damn memories keep getting worse. And not in a bad way. Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
On Disc 3 now:
SpoilerThe intro to the final boss (Gongoro) of disc 2 was soo corny mostly due to Jansen's dialogue. He's easily my least favorite character. The battle wasn't hard either, but it wasn't really supposed to be so pay no mind to that.
Other than that, I am still having a good time with this one. The city of Gohtza is awesome visually and reminds me alot of Midgar from FFVII. There's also a dinosaur boss on this disc that is pretty amazing visually.
My formation of choice so far are Kaim and Seth up front as tanks, Ming, Sarah, and Jansen in the back for support and much damage. The Gamble spell is really nice for big damage but of course sometimes it hits for minuscule damage hence the name. It seems to hit on bigger damage moreso than low, so I use it lot.

I feel where you're coming from man, it's definitely not for everyone. I never even paid attention to that little detail with the female officer in the beginning lol.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Lost Odyssey Impressions
I haven't read up too much on this game but from the posts here, it sounds like a real throwback JRPG which I haven't played in a while. The last of this style of game I have played was Golden Sun, which was nice but the puzzles pissed me off after a while. Is the character management system in this game better than Golden Suns Djinn system where you mix and match them to get different things?
I played Blue Dragon for about an hour or so, but I didn't continue because I personally didn't like the kiddish character design. This looks much cooler.Comment
